Trades Worker

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) is seeking experienced and dedicated trades workers for the hospital campus in Jamaica Plain. In this position you will perform various hospital‑related tasks to assist skilled craftsmen and perform routine maintenance and repair duties.

40 hours per week, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Days off are Saturday and Sunday.

• Servicing and replacing minor plumbing fixtures such as faucets, washers, flushometers, valves, etc.
• Maintaining and making routine repairs to electrically powered equipment and appliances, performing other electrical work not requiring a licensed electrician.
• Executing preventive maintenance and repairs to HVAC equipment, including belt replacement, filter changes, bearing replacements, and control adjustments.
• Maintaining machinery, equipment, and tools through cleaning, lubricating, greasing, and oiling.
• Assisting in the construction of tables, wooden barricades, window screens, and performing minor carpentry work.
• Installing glass in windows and doors.
• Assisting in installing and repairing floor coverings such as tiles, linoleum, and rugs.
• Assisting in erecting or dismantling scaffolding and rigging used to access high places.
• Providing related duties: furnishing tools and materials to tradesmen, holding materials, cleaning work area, operating soldering or brazing equipment, erecting or dismantling wall partitions, requisitioning supplies, and maintaining records.

• Knowledge and skill in the use and operation of hand‑held power tools such as drills.
• Knowledge and skill with small hand tools such as pliers, chisels, hammers.
• Understanding of methods used in the care and maintenance of small and hand‑held power tools.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
• Ability to handle large or heavy lifting and climbing ladders or scaffolds.
• Physical stamina and endurance, ability to stand for prolonged periods, be able to lift heavy objects.
• Mechanical aptitude.

• Experience using gas‑powered equipment such as a snow blower.
• Experience providing labor and support to building maintenance and facilities.

• Stand for long periods of time, lift and carry heavy objects.
• Willing to assist in all construction project work on and around the hospital.

Title 101 CMR 23.00 (“Regulation”) requires certain agency staff to have received the COVID‑19 vaccination and Influenza vaccination, or have taken required mitigation measures, to prevent viral infection and transmission in State Hospitals and State Congregate Care Facilities. Successful candidates will be required to acknowledge and attest to their vaccination status for both COVID‑19 and Influenza.
