The Facilities Management and Capital Planning department provides for the management and maintenance of 62 state-owned courthouses and 42 leased facilities located in ten counties of the Commonwealth.
PayGrade 16S starting at $68,037.06 with a maximum of $ per year.
ShiftMonday-Friday, 6:00am-2:00pm. This position is considered essential personnel in certain emergencies and may require work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
UnionThis position is a union position covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with O.P.E.I.U., Local 6. New hires start at entry-level rate and may progress through salary band per the agreement.
Essential Functions And ResponsibilitiesFOR ELECTRICIAN
- Tests, repairs, installs and/or maintains various types of electrical systems and equipment.
- Troubleshoots electrical and related equipment using necessary tools and by reading schematics, diagrams, and outlines to identify and correct operational problems.
- Provides preventative maintenance to equipment, machinery, and tools.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of equipment and materials.
- Schedules and escorts contractors.
- Cooperates with Facilities system personnel on electrical systems and power consumption.
- Performs other duties as required.
FOR HVAC
- Installs, repairs, alters and maintains existing heating, venting and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and systems.
- Troubleshoots HVAC equipment and systems.
- Runs standard tests to determine whether finished work meets specifications.
- Inspects facility to determine the need for maintenance and repair to HVAC equipment.
- Establishes priorities and makes recommendations concerning work activities.
- Maintains courthouse building and grounds.
- Provides preventative maintenance to equipment, machinery, and tools.
- Repairs, installs and tests multiple systems and equipment.
- Orders motors, parts and equipment.
- Schedules and escorts contractors.
- Works with Engineering on efficiency and power consumption.
- Performs other duties as required.
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
- Four (4) years of related work experience, which may include apprenticeship toward a state license.
Electrician
- Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts journeyman electrician’s license issued by the Board of State Examiners of Electricians.
HVAC
- Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts refrigeration license.
- Possession of an EPA 608/CFC certification.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered for meeting minimum qualifications.

This position serves as a lead worker to others.
Working ConditionsWork is frequently performed in indoor, outdoor, warehouses or shops/facilities environments. The position requires some exposure to extreme cold (below 32 degrees), moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals or substances, and loud noises of 85+ decibels such as heavy trucks and construction.
Physical DemandsThis position requires medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly while moving objects.
