Facilities Technician

The Facilities department seeks a Facilities Technician to assist in the operations, maintenance, and repairs to the University's buildings and grounds as well as light HVAC repairs. The typical work schedule is an 8-hour shift during a 40-hour work week. Some overtime required.

* Responsible for general maintenance including painting

* Completes facilities work and room set-ups initiated by faculty, staff, and students

* Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains the building systems and facilities as required

* Assists with the completion of small-scale carpentry projects

* Performs repairs of doors, hardware, and basic locksmith tasks

* Completes light electrical repairs to appliances, fixtures and switches

* Completes light plumbing repairs to water and sewage systems including replacement of fittings and clearing of stoppages

* Parks cars

* Repairs and replaces of glass, tile, screens, locks, drapes

* Assists in removal of snow and ice as needed

* Assists in small office moves

* Carries out preventative maintenance tasks as assigned

* Participates in the on-call rotation for emergency situations such as inclement weather or mechanical failures

* Additional responsibilities may be assigned by supervisor

Required:

* A minimum of a high school diploma or GED

* A valid driver's license

* Basic knowledge of all building systems (HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical)

* Basic carpentry skills and working knowledge of building materials, size, and nomenclature

* Ability to work with hand tools

* Basic computer skills

* Demonstrated ability to work with peers

* Ability to manage and multiple tasks simultaneously

* Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

* Must be able to communicate and read English, follow verbal and written instruction

* The ability to occasionally work off-hours and weekends

Physical Requirements:

* Must be able to climb ladders

* Must be able to lift, push and carry up to 50 lbs

* Must be able to crawl under desks

* Must be able to be constantly exposed to weather conditions

* Must spend considerable time on feet

* Must be available in the event of an emergency
