Auto/Diesel Mechanic

Type of Position: 6 month contract to hire, union once direct
Shift: Monday-Friday 6am-2:30pm
Pay: $25/hr-$35/hr
Job DescriptionThis role involves performing repair and maintenance on trucks and buses in accordance with factory and industry standards. You will run diagnostics on vehicles, complete both minor and major repairs, and work closely with a collaborative repair team to support operational goals. The position requires careful attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and the ability to maintain accurate service records.
Responsibilities- Perform minor and major mechanical repairs on trucks and buses in line with factory and industry standards.
- Conduct regular preventative maintenance on service trucks, including inspections, tire rotations, and oil changes.
- Run diagnostic tests on trucks to identify mechanical, electrical, and systems-related issues.
- Collaborate with the repair team to diagnose vehicle problems and plan effective repair strategies.
- Maintain an organized parts inventory and ensure cleanliness and orderliness in the shop.
- Document and maintain accurate records of each repair and maintenance task performed on vehicles.
- Support a safe work environment by following established procedures and using appropriate tools and equipment.
- 1–2 years of experience working on cars, buses, or trucks in a repair or maintenance capacity.
- Hands-on experience with automotive repair and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting on vehicles.
- Experience working with diesel engines or heavy equipment is highly beneficial.
- Knowledge of electrical systems and the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues.
- Capability to perform wheel-related mechanical work and general truck and bus repairs.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a repair team in a shop environment.
Skills & Qualifications
- Cummins engine experience preferred.
- Experience in environments such as automotive shops, car dealerships, or bus maintenance facilities is an asset.
- CDL license is a plus but not required; willingness to obtain a CDL is advantageous.
- Interest in pursuing ASE or other technical training and certifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to diagnostics and repairs.
