Position:
Mobile Diesel Technician Level II – DOT Management

Company:
Cox Fleet (Cox Automotive)

Location:

Must reside in the specified city, state, or region. Remote work is possible but not required.
Shift: Saturday – Wednesday.

Compensation:
Hourly base rate between $29.42 and $44.13, variable by location and experience. Eligible for commission or incentive programs.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to identify malfunctions and confirm proper operation.
  • Identify problems, assess the relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternative solutions.
  • Independently manage parts inventory on the company‑issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Work with clients to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve issues.
  • Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work according to company standards; upload pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using the company‑issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Manage daily schedule with a high degree of independence; maintain productivity and meet standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support via email or phone to obtain repair approvals and discuss RO findings.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 3 years of related experience (alternative: any degree/certification plus 5 years of experience).
  • Must possess and supply the hand tools necessary for the duties.
  • Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  • Must complete DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical; a valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining is acceptable.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Safe driver with a valid driver’s license; able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Must hold a valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship; no OPT, CPT, STEM/OPT or future visa sponsorship.
Certifications (Required / Preferred)
  • Required:

    ASE T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
  • Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), ASE T4 (Brakes), ASE T5 (Suspension), ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), ASE T7 (HVAC), ASE 608/609 (Air Conditioning).
