Job Summary:

Gándara Center's Boston Youth Violence Prevention Program (BYVPP) offers a comprehensive model for immigrant children ages 10-15. Services include individual counseling, intensive family therapy with evidence-based interventions for problem-solving, risk management, communication, and skill-building. The program also identifies community resources and develops natural supports for youth and their caregivers, while providing case management, outreach, and advocacy services. The service will be provide to children (ages 10-14), youth, and families in Boston and surrounding neighborhoods at home and in the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Client Services Responsibilities:
  • Behavioral health assessment (initial assessment) that occurs in the youth's home or another location of the family's choice.
  • Development of a youth and family centered treatment plan in collaboration with the youth, parent/caregiver(s), and with required consents. .
  • Provides or arranges for transportation for his/her clients to appointments, crisis/respite services, etc if needed. Driver's license and auto insurance with adequate coverage must be kept up to date.
  • Review/development of a risk management/safety plan in collaboration with the youth and parent/caregiver.
  • Provides family/individual therapy that may include working with the entire family, or an individual, to implement focused, structural, strategic, or behavioral techniques, or evidenced-based interventions to enhance problem solving, limit setting, risk management/safety planning, communication, skill building to strengthen the relationships, and to advance therapeutic goals or improve ineffective patterns of interactions.
  • Identification of community resources and development of natural supports for youth and parent/caregiver(s) to support and sustain achievement of the yout's treatment plan goals and objectives.
  • Provides or secures support and crisis/emergency services for the youth/family. This may be done through face-to-face contact, phone contact or an on call system.
  • Collaborates with other necessary individuals the youth and family may have contact with, such as Bureau Case Managers, Probation Officers, Judges, District Attorneys, Attorneys, Teachers, Physicians, etc. Will contact these key people.
  • Master level clinicians must inform the Agency of all emergencies or critical incidents.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possess a master's degree in a human service field (including Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Family Therapy, and other related fields) from an accredited college/university.
  • Have training in family therapy as well as training and working experience with youth and families.
  • Have experience navigating any of the child/family-serving systems and advocating for family members who are involved in the behavioral health system.
  • Demonstrate ability to be innovative, creative, analytical and decisive in problem solving.
  • Demonstrate strong communications, administrative and organizational skills.
