MAPS (Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers) is a private, nonprofit, community-based agency that has been providing culturally and linguistically competent health and social services to Portuguese-speaking communities in Massachusetts since 1970. The organization serves Brazilian, Cabo Verdean, Portuguese, and other Portuguese-speaking individuals and families, helping them access health, education, and social services while maintaining strong cultural identity. MAPS’ mission is to improve the lives of Portuguese speakers and support their full participation in American society through direct services, advocacy, leadership, and community development.

Services include immigrant integration support, child and family clinical services, court-referred intervention programs, domestic violence and sexual assault services, elder services, HIV/STI prevention and care, and free short-term remote mental health counseling.

Role Description

This position provides therapeutic social and emotional support including, assessment, case management and crisis intervention services for Portuguese speaking families and children at-risk for abuse and neglect.

The primary responsibilities of this flexible position:

  • In home therapy visits with clients in their homes or placements.
  • Develops Assessment/ Treatment plan and assesses client needs
  • Advocates and provides services for families and children in reunification, such as parenting and mental health
  • Provides translation for assessment and treatment plans
  • Identifies community resources for client referrals
  • Maintains client data and prepares reports
  • Participates in in-service training programs
  • Complete all documentation required for client files
  • Required to participate in organizational fundraisers and community events
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule that will include evening and weekend hours
  • Other related duties as assigned by Director
Qualifications

Master’s degree in social work/psychology or related field required.

Experience in social, community services, and crisis intervention. Special

Skills:

Bilingual/Bicultural in Portuguese/English/, knowledge of Portuguese speaking communities. Strong oral and written communications skills.

Starting annual salary range commensurable with experience and education: $60,000 to $70,000, plus excellent benefit package.
