At Medtronic you can begin a life-long career of exploration and innovation, while helping champion healthcare access and equity for all. You’ll lead with purpose, breaking down barriers to innovation in a more connected, compassionate world.

A Day in the Life

Medtronic strives to enable earlier diagnosis, better treatment, faster complication‑free recovery, and enhanced patient outcomes through less invasive surgical solutions. The Robotic Surgical Technologies Business Unit set the standard for Robotically Assisted Surgery (RAS) by creating innovative surgical products and services that focus on surgical procedures of diseases and conditions.

Located at the Medtronic office in Munich, Germany, as a Principal Dev Ops Software Engineer you will lead and/or participate in supporting our CI/CD infrastructure for the software development organization. You will also be involved in the processes to develop, deploy, and operate infrastructure, tools, and services for our large and continuously growing SCM eco‑system.

You will work in a fast‑paced environment with a group of software engineers, software test engineers, system test engineers, project management, field service and other related disciplines to deliver our Surgical Robotics software. Do you like Ansible? Do you know how to cross‑compile 3rd party libraries from source and create a Debian package to distribute them? Are you a CMake expert?

Are you the go‑to source for Git commands and solutions on your team? Do you like automating yourself out of a task and then moving on to the next task to automate? Do you have strong Linux admin skills? Do you enjoy a Dev Ops role that supports an embedded device? If any of those questions are relevant (and interesting) to you, we would welcome hearing from you.

At Medtronic, we bring bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. In‑person exchanges are invaluable to our work. We are working a minimum of 3 days a week onsite as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross‑functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
  • Support the software development life cycle for design, implementation, build, test, deployment and debugging of embedded software on a medical device
  • Architecting, implementing, and supporting an end‑to‑end CI/CD system which includes the Atlassian Suite of tools (Jira, Bit Bucket, Bamboo, Confluence) and JFrog Artifactory
  • Lead and participate on a team of Dev Ops engineers to develop, deploy, and operate infrastructure, tools, and services for our large and continuously growing SCM eco‑system
  • Ability to automate release deployments across development, test, staging, Quality Assurance and production stacks using a combination of scripting languages and other automation toolkits
  • Debug build issues for a cross‑compiled, multi‑target architecture based embedded product
  • Identifying problem areas within the current software systems and crafting efficient solutions
  • Collaborating with internal and external customers, partners, and leadership to define a roadmap for SCM systems that enables our customers to increase product development efficiency
  • History of building automation to scale services and reduce operational overhead
  • Crafting and implementing critical metrics using various analytics methods and dashboards
  • Ability to work with our partner IT organizations to fulfill our technical project goals
  • Serve as a technical lead for an Agile team and actively participate in all Agile ceremonies
  • Lead by doing, taking a hands‑on approach working with the engineers on the team
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence, encouraging teams to continuously strive to improve the customer experience and drive impactful results.
