Federal Reserve Bank of Boston – Federal Reserve Financial Services (FRFS) delivers a suite of payments services to financial institutions via Fed Line® Solutions, Fedwire® Funds and Securities, the National Settlement Service (NSS), Fed Cash®, FedACH®, Check Services, and the Fed Now® Service. FRFS operates as a fully integrated organization with groups dedicated to customer experience, operations, technology, product and customer/industry management, enterprise services, payments system improvement, and growth of Fed Now.

The FRFS Enterprise emphasizes a customer-first mindset and a robust, unified customer experience, aiming to provide speed, resilience, and choice in meeting payments needs across the United States. This position is part of a new interbank 24x7x365 real-time gross settlement (RTGS) service with integrated clearing functionality, called the Fed Now service. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a mission-critical Federal Reserve initiative that will transform the payments landscape in the United States.

The position will be primarily on-site with residency commutable to one of our offices required.

• Top level technical expert in one or more highly specialized areas of applications systems analysis and programming. Responsible for software design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation. Has full technical knowledge of all phases of applications systems analysis and development. Provides technical leadership on complex projects. Interacts with internal project teams and work groups regularly. The level of work required is advanced and staff must be able to work under minimal supervision.

• Serve as a Senior Software Engineer: to design, develop and implement new complex solutions in accordance with Fed Now and Fed Standards
• Develop software solutions (front end SPA and backend) in Cloud
• Develop end to end Infrastructure-as-Code solutions in Cloud
• Provide input into strategic and tactical planning of software solutions and software development lifecycle changes
• Engineer across numerous areas and serve as subject matter expert in one or more areas
• Train and consult cross-functionally on troubleshooting/resolving highly complex and/or highly time critical problems
• Collaborate with analysts as part of an integrated Agile team to define user requirements and conduct design reviews for the development of complex and innovative cloud applications using modern internet-scale technologies and Serverless architecture in Cloud
• Demonstrate skill dexterity; adapt and employ new technical skills alongside proven staples
• Ensure the quality of software developed, maintained and enhanced in-house and installed into production to prevent catastrophic defects that cause customer problems or production interruption
• Ensure compliance with Fed policies, procedures and standards
• Provide primary or backup production support for applications and components, including timely resolution to production problems and processing issues

• 8+ years of Java Development
• 3+ years working with AWS cloud-based platforms in an enterprise environment
• Demonstrated experience engineering software with cloud-first architectures
• 5+ years software engineering experience in a team-based environment
• Experience with building and deploying solutions in Cloud
• Experience with Serverless architecture for building software solutions in Cloud
• Experience with CI/CD build tools, and Dev Ops processes
• Experience developing high performance, high volume, highly available (24/7/365) environments
• Experience with Agile software engineering (Scrum, Kanban, Lean etc)
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems

• Deep expertise in Java and proficient knowledge of programming languages (JavaScript, XML, JSON, HTML, CSS, Python a bonus)
• Proficient knowledge of operating systems (Linux, Unix, Windows)
