Overview

The Global Experience Design team is building a shared design system and front-end platform that provides reusable components, layouts, design tokens, theming, and UI engineering capabilities to support enterprise digital experiences across State Street.

We are seeking a Front End React UI Engineer to help build intuitive, scalable, and high-quality user experiences across the SSDS platform. This role will focus on developing modern front-end applications, reusable UI components, and shared design system capabilities that support enterprise products and front-end teams across the organization.

Why This Role Is Important

SSDS serves as a shared foundation for teams building enterprise applications across the organization. This role is important because it helps ensure shared components, styling patterns, accessibility practices, and front-end standards are implemented consistently and with high quality. The Front End React UI Engineer will contribute to a more unified user experience while helping product teams move faster and build more effectively on shared foundations.

What

You Will Be Responsible For
  • Build and maintain responsive, accessible, and performant front-end applications, reusable UI components, and design system capabilities for SSDS.
  • Translate product, UX, and business requirements into clean, maintainable, and reusable UI components and application features.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver workflow-driven user experiences in an iterative, product-led environment.
  • Develop front-end integrations with APIs, shared services, and platform capabilities.
  • Contribute to reusable design systems, front-end standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Help implement agent-assisted and AI-enabled user experiences with a focus on clarity, trust, transparency, and usability.
  • Write well-tested, secure, and maintainable code that meets enterprise quality and compliance expectations.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement of front-end architecture and development processes.
What We Value
  • Experience building modern front-end applications in a professional engineering environment.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and Type Script, with hands-on experience building applications with React.
  • Experience developing reusable UI components, application shells, and scalable client-side architecture.
  • Experience working with Tailwind CSS, utility-first CSS frameworks, or similar front-end styling systems.
  • Experience working with design systems, reusable component libraries, and token-driven UI development.
  • Solid understanding of front-end fundamentals including state management, performance, accessibility, and responsive design.
  • Experience building accessible user interfaces and applying accessibility best practices and standards.
  • Experience consuming REST APIs and integrating with back-end services.
  • Familiarity with modern front-end tooling such as Vite, Vitest, Storybook, or similar workflows.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and UX teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in building polished, user-centered interfaces.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving enterprise environment with evolving priorities and complex workflows.
