AI Engineer (Applied/Software), Software Engineer, Python, Machine Learning/ ML Engineer
About The Role
Our Software team's mission is to design, build, and support world‑class software that empowers all nELISA users with proteomics superpowers, including internally tware is integral to our vision of the future, and every aspect of our company today will depend on improving our software stack.
Functionally, our stack includes (i) a full‑stack LIMS that underpins inventory, manufacturing, and lab operations; (ii) data pipelines and cloud infrastructure to monitor and analyze nELISA experiments; and (iii) a customer‑facing web portal for visualizing and analyzing proteomic datasets. We are actively designing agentic backends and skills for several of our codebases, using AI coding tools heavily across the team.
As a Software Engineer, you will build core components of the nELISA software stack, scale them, and work cross‑functionally with Engineering, Commercial, and Lab Operations teams. You will also develop internal tools that create data‑driven feedback loops for our R&D, automation, and customer success teams.
Responsibilities- Build core sub‑components of our software stack including database schemas, analysis pipelines, cloud infrastructure, web interfaces, machine‑learning models, and APIs.
- Design and build agentic backends, skills, and AI‑augmented tooling to allow teams and AI agents to interact safely with the LIMS, data pipelines, and lab automation.
- Develop improved internal tools for the LIMS and software for R&D teams to increase operations and R&D velocity, including an electronic lab notebook plan.
- Write modular software for efficient analysis pipelines and internal QC tools, leveraging open‑source and commercial libraries.
- Build interfaces to robotic lab automation equipment and extend these capabilities to integrate seamlessly with our software stack.
- Contribute improvements that enable further scaling of our decoding and analysis pipelines; write tests, evaluations (including for AI‑generated code), and set up robust CI/CD and monitoring.
- Deploy and scale data pipelines for processing flow‑cytometry data into quantitative protein concentrations in collaboration with Data Engineering.
- Communicate and collaborate extensively with internal LIMS, data portal, and pipeline users, including occasional customer interactions.
- Full‑stack software engineering experience, ideally with time in biotech or life sciences.
- Hands‑on experience with AI coding tools and a clear viewpoint on them.
- Technical skills in algorithm development, signal processing, image analysis, computational biology, or bioinformatics.
- Experience developing data analysis pipelines and algorithms for biochemical assays (e.g., ELISA, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, or NGS).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent industry experience.
- Strong Python skills and experience on small teams; ability to prototype rapidly and ship production‑ready software.
- Experience developing LIMS extensions, lab equipment interfaces, or high‑performance data pipelines for biological data.
- Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and in code—plus the ability to write clear specs for humans and AI agents.
- Fluency in English; the role interacts with our U.S. team and customers.
- Nice to have: experience building agentic systems (LLM tool use, RAG, evaluation harnesses) and a thoughtful approach to AI on sensitive data.
- Connect deeply with our mission to make biology measurable and to build a future where early disease detection is possible.
- Are up for a challenge and want to grow in a team that embraces a growth mindset and values candid feedback.
- Want to be at the cutting edge of biotechnology and software development, designing pipelines and agents that will scale our technology.
- Love writing code and working with bioscience users to improve the lives of scientists through full‑stack development.
- Prefer working and communicating within a diverse cross‑functional team and want your ideas to be valued.
- Want responsibility for solving some of our hardest problems and making a measurable impact on both internal operations and customer research.
If you are passionate about writing full‑stack software for biology, want to innovate in proteomics, and are eager to make a meaningful impact in the world, we invite you to apply and join us on our journey to redefine proteomics and the understanding of biology.
