About the Job

Nordic Semiconductor is looking for an Engineering Manager who thrives at the intersection of people leadership and deep technical ownership to lead our Cloud Platform team.

Our platform gives hardware teams the tools to monitor, debug, and update IoT devices in production. Companies like re Markable, Whoop, and Ultrahuman rely on it to keep millions of devices reliable in the field, and the results speak for themselves. Customers have reported stats like 10x reductions in return rates, 90% fewer device resets, and doubled engineering productivity. We’re an industry leader in enabling hardware teams to ship with confidence and iterate fast after launch.

You will lead a team of platform engineers with unique technical breadth and depth, responsible for the core backend platform underpinning nRF Cloud. You will identify and drive strategic investments across infrastructure, databases, performance, reliability, and security, and ultimately help us scale a successful business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the nRF Cloud platform and pragmatically scale a system that ingests data from millions of IoT devices daily, leading and learning from a team of experts.
  • Own your team's productivity and output, proactively identifying blockers, balancing workload, and shaping workflows so people have the information and focus they need.
  • Build and maintain a healthy team culture, creating a safe, supportive environment where people can do their best work.
  • Contribute technically by participating in architecture design, code reviews, and debugging production issues.
  • Define and evolve the cloud platform roadmap, biasing towards action and experimentation.
  • Champion observability and technical excellence, building a strong observability culture across the organization.
  • Partner cross‑functionally with Product, SDK & Field Engineering, Go To Market, and Security teams.
  • Own the hiring process for your team, from defining roles to closing candidates.
  • Represent your team across the organization, communicating up and across clearly and building relationships with other engineering leads.
Qualifications & Skills

Required:

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 1 year of engineering management experience.
  • Proven ability to remain hands‑on technically while managing a team.
  • Deep familiarity with AWS, including services such as EKS, RDS, S3, EC2, ECS, and related tooling.
  • Solid experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency in backend programming, preferably Python, Kotlin, or Type Script.
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes, including deploying, operating, and scaling production workloads.
  • Practical experience with observability and monitoring tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have:

  • Background in IoT, developer tools, or embedded systems tooling.
  • Experience with building device telemetry pipelines, managing OTA update infrastructure, or working with protocols like MQTT or CoAP.
  • Experience working in an organization through a significant product integration or platform migration.
  • Familiarity with Click House or other columnar/analytical databases for high‑volume time‑series or event data.
  • Experience owning technical portions of SOC 2 or other compliance processes.
Personal Skills
  • Lead with care and accountability, genuinely investing in people and holding yourself responsible for outcomes.
  • Think about systems, not just tasks, and fix root causes rather than symptoms.
  • Default to clarity, setting expectations and communicating a narrative.
  • Explain technical decisions to non‑technical stakeholders and translate business context into actionable terms.
  • Show curiosity about the IoT domain, understanding device needs and how cloud tooling and AI can improve hardware product teams.
