Design Automation Engineer

Our mission hinges on being able to create building designs with 10x more detail than typical architectural sets in 1/10th the time. We're looking for a Design Automation Engineer to build the CAD automation for that workflow. You'll write custom features in and around Onshape (Feature Script and API), and back them with real engineering practices, so the tools you ship run reliably in production and empower the design engineers by reducing manual workload.

Your work sits downstream of architectural design and feeds our CAD-to-fab pipeline, all the way to the factory floor.

This is a hands-on role. The best candidates sit somewhere between practitioner and engineer: a parametric CAD user who became a software builder, or a software engineer who enjoys living in CAD. You're comfortable using coding agents and modern AI tooling to prototype fast, work closely with the team, and ship something people actually use day to day rather than a demo that never leaves the shelf.

• Design, develop, and maintain custom Onshape features in Feature Script that run in production and hold up to daily use.
• Augment Onshape workflows by building out tooling and integrating with systems outside of Onshape via Onshape APIs.
• Expanding the capabilities and uses (skills) of our modeling MCP built on top of Onshape APIs
• Work with the design engineering team to develop high value features end to end: discover their pain points, design and implement solutions, integrate into their daily workflows, and iterate.
• Build automation that integrates MEP constraints and augments device and fixture placement.
• Build automated code-compliance checking, e.g. outlet placement, egress, tempered windows requirements.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to raise efficiency and throughput across design and manufacturing.

Prior knowledge or experience in architecture or construction is not required. We'll get you up to speed.

• BS in mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering, or computer science.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with parametric design (Onshape, Autodesk Fusion, Solid Works, etc.).
• Experience building custom features in Onshape with Feature Script.
• General coding experience, ideally in Go, Python, or C#.
• Experience using coding agents to build prototypes, work with others, and get to a solution quickly. A 0-to-1 builder.

• Experience with the Onshape API or building integrations and apps beyond Feature Script.
• General software engineering experience: automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring and alerting, debugging and root cause analysis.
• Experience in a manufacturing, DFMA, or a hardware product setting.
• Familiarity with CAD-to-fabrication workflows (CAM, CNC).
