The Department of Informatics and Analytics (I&A) at Dana-Farber is looking for highly motivated bioinformatics software or data engineer who is passionate about the potential for molecular data to support clinical care of Dana-Farber patients and the groundbreaking discoveries that are a product of genomic data integration and analysis. The qualified candidate will work on exciting initiatives to support a cloud-based bioinformatics platforms and other AI-enabled data products.
The role will also contribute to development of data models that facilitate integration of clinical, genomic, and other relevant data types. The developed products will enable researchers at DFCI to efficiently manage their molecular and biomedical record data in the cloud environment, launch and monitor containerized data analysis workflows, and visualize the results.
The ideal candidate has strong programming and data-analysis skills, with experience in Python, Linux, cloud platforms such as AWS, and technologies including Databricks or Snowflake. Familiarity with Git-based development, Agile practices, bioinformatics workflow tools such such as Cromwell or Nextflow, and AI-assisted coding tools is preferred, along with a strong interest in automation, data security, and innovation. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with functional teams such as Software and Data Engineering, and cloud and other technology vendors.

- Code new software features and translate requirements into software implementation.
- Write test suites, including: unit, integration and end-to-end tests.
- Write technical documentation.

- Provide technical oversight of all aspects of one or more software products.
- Lead technical discussions with team members and stakeholders.
- Evaluate new technologies and their suitability to one or more projects.
- Write product requirements and engage with individual stakeholder to identify product requirements.
- Lead technical discussions and report project status to stakeholders and collaborators.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field. Master’s degree may substitute for experience.
Minimum Experience:
Five years; experience may substitute for degree.
REQUIRED:
Computer Science Fundamentals:
- Advanced proficiency in at least one modern programming language, e.g. Python, Java script, Java, etc.
- Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Able to lead the development of entire applications or large components of complex projects. Capable of leading all code reviews
- Proficient “full-stack” programmer in one or more areas such as front-end, back-end, cloud or high-performance computing.
- Able to create or improve project deployment processes.
- Able to propose new technology for existing projects, and able to develop awareness and training materials to advocate for new technology.
- Able to lead technical discussions and report project status to stakeholders and collaborators.
