Position: Application Developer I

The Information Services department seeks a skilled and experienced Application Developer to join our Application Development team. The team analyzes business requirements, transforms them into technical designs, and implements solutions across our ecosystem of enterprise applications and modern web applications. This position will contribute to the development, analysis, testing, and documentation of new and existing enterprise applications, including various modernization efforts and Ethos API-based integrations, to meet the needs of the University.

Application Development (40%)

  • Code and test assigned work for new applications, integrations, reports, custom forms, and workflows.
  • Contribute to the modernization of the OnColl web portal using React, Next.js, and Type Script, integrated with other internal and external API endpoints.
  • Constantly monitor and report on progress of projects to all stakeholders.

Application Support (40%)

  • Coordinate with software developers and professionals in the creation and maintenance of applications.
  • Create technical specifications, test plans, and operational documentation.
  • Work with developers and IT staff to oversee code releases, combining an understanding of both engineering and coding.
  • Support integrations with the Ellucian Ethos API and assist with Colleague data extracts and reporting needs as assigned.
  • Create new and extend existing operational documentation.

General (20%)

  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, the Ellucian ecosystem, and their potential impact on the support business; investigate and develop skills in new technologies.
  • Create strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning.
  • Maintain a high level of employee morale within the team.
Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server database administration and stored procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external business users.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, XML, and CSS.
  • Familiarity with Azure Dev Ops, CI/CD pipelines, and version control workflows.
  • Strong organizational, presentation, and customer service skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing, sitting, manual dexterity, ability to move between offices and floors of buildings.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform well under pressure.
  • Ability to be physically in attendance at designated worksite during scheduled work hours and to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Normal range of vision and hearing (with or without correction).
  • Ability to lift up to 5-10 lbs.
