Waterfront Lifeguard
OverviewConcord Recreation is seeking Lifeguards for its Waterfront program at White Pond. Lifeguards work under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Manager to safeguard all patrons from drowning and other accidents. They monitor the assigned area, enforce recreational rules and regulations established by the Town of Concord Recreation Division, practice preventative lifeguarding, maintain safety equipment, administer first‑aid, and render aid to rescue and resuscitate near‑drowning victims.
Lifeguards also assist with cleaning, security, and maintenance of White Pond properties and adjacent beach areas.
Schedule varies with shifts:
Morning 9:30‑2:30, Midafternoon 12:30‑5:00 and 1:00‑6:00 PM, and Evening 2:30‑7:30, set by the Aquatics Manager, from May 23 – August 16, 2026. Pay range: $15.75 – $20.00 per hour; starting pay based upon qualifications and experience. Must work a minimum of 3 shifts per week up to a maximum of 40 hours.
- Maintain watchfulness over pond to prevent dangerous situations.
- Monitor and assist swimmers.
- Enforce all pond and beach rules; follow all safety‑related procedures.
- Provide basic first aid.
- Perform rescue when appropriate, call for help, provide emergency care, interview witnesses, and file reports.
- Attend regular in‑service trainings.
- Maintain a high level of expertise and professionalism.
- Wear proper attire (red lifeguard bathing suit) and provide whistle and shirt.
- Assist in execution of activities and events involving water or waterfront.
- Lead or assist in water search & rescue when necessary; be familiar with phone locations, first aid stations, and information stations.
- Perform other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation arises.
- Current Waterfront Lifeguarding certification or ability to obtain prior to first in‑service.
- Water Safety Instructor certification strongly preferred.
- Must pass swim test as performed by Program Manager.
- Must be 16 years of age or older (work permit needed for under 18).
- Available to work for the entire season (~10 weeks).
- Fun‑loving, enthusiastic personality.
- Tremendous work ethic.
- Confidence and positive presence in both group and one‑on‑one settings.
- Exudes leadership, flexibility, trustworthiness, creativity, energy, inspiration, and positivity.
- Strong desire to lead by example.
- Working knowledge of aquatic facilities, procedures, equipment, and lifesaving techniques, CPR and First Aid.
- Ability to swim.
- Effective communication with all members of the public, including children and young adults, in a courteous and tactful manner.
Work is performed primarily outdoors during the summer months and may involve moderate variations in temperature, noise, and odors. Work may also be performed indoors in a relatively noisy environment with constant interruptions. Staff must stand and walk for extended periods, balance, crouch, grasp, pull, reach, and stoop as needed.
