About Boston Legacy FC

Boston Legacy FC (the “Club”) is Boston’s new professional women’s soccer team, set to begin play in the National Women’s Soccer League in 2026. We are dedicated to building a championship‑caliber organization on and off the pitch. We are passionate about advancing women’s sports, investing in our local community, and redefining the future of professional soccer. As a startup club with a big vision, we’re building from the ground up—and looking for entrepreneurial team members who want to be part of something extraordinary.

The Role

The Performance Coach leads the on‑field physical development of the team as part of the Boston Legacy High Performance Department, ensuring players are optimally prepared for training and competition. Working closely with the Director of High Performance, this role integrates applied sports science, load management, and recovery practices to enhance performance, reduce injury risk, and maximize player availability throughout the season.

The Performance Coach plans and delivers the team’s physical preparation strategy—including periodization of training loads, live monitoring of player outputs, and implementation of individualized fitness programs. They will coach athletes to enhance movement efficiency, acceleration, and speed qualities.

In addition, the Performance Coach supports return‑to‑play programming for injured athletes, working with the medical and rehabilitation staff to ensure a smooth and progressive transition back to full training and competition.

This role requires close collaboration across the medical and coaching teams to align physical preparation, rehabilitation, and tactical demands. The ideal candidate is adaptable, decisive, and possesses a holistic understanding of athlete development, integrated performance care, and football environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver on‑field physical preparation, ensuring alignment with physical, tactical, and technical objectives.
  • Foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and excellence consistent with the Vision, Mission, and Core Values of Boston Legacy.
  • Develop and implement a performance framework supporting the team’s playing philosophy, competition schedule, and tactical needs.
  • Conduct baseline movement and athletic assessments to establish long‑term KPIs and monitor player progress.
  • Design and manage seasonal, weekly, and daily training plans in coordination with coaching and medical staff.
  • Align physical and tactical periodization to optimize readiness and performance, adjusting based on match schedules, player feedback, and data.
  • Lead warm‑ups, conditioning, and recovery sessions, integrating physical preparation principles into football‑specific drills.
  • Deliver individualized fitness testing and programming to support energy system development.
  • Manage all aspects of GPS and athlete monitoring systems—setup, live tracking, analysis, and reporting.
  • Utilize sports science technologies (e.g., Output, Vald, 1080 Sprint) to assess performance, movement, and readiness.
  • Coordinate with the strength and conditioning coach to ensure a unified, holistic approach to athlete development.
  • Support return‑to‑play progressions using frameworks such as the “Control to Chaos Continuum.”
  • Analyze performance and wellness data to guide load management, recovery, and readiness decisions.
  • Collaborate with the Head Coach, Director of High Performance, and Director of Player Health to align physical preparation and health goals.
  • Educate players on recovery, nutrition, and performance behaviors that enhance resilience and long‑term development.
  • Stay current with research and innovations in women’s football and sports science to drive continuous improvement.
  • Promote professionalism, accountability, and a growth mindset within the player group and performance staff.
