Position: Bus Attendant (SY25-26)

Transportation Attendants (Bus Monitors) are responsible for monitoring and assisting students during transportation to and from school. They report to the Principal/Headmaster of the assigned school.

Reports to: Head of School

Job Overview: SPED Cab Monitors monitor and assist students with special needs during transportation.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all students on the vehicle.
  • Board the vehicle before or at the first stop and remain until all students reach their stops.
  • Ride with students in the back of the vehicle unless only the front seat is available.
  • Assist students in and out of the vehicle if necessary.
  • Check that all students have exited at their stops.
  • Exhibit proper behavior; avoid horseplay or arguments.
  • Ensure students wear seat belts where required.
  • Prohibit students from leaving the vehicle at unauthorized stops; contact the dispatcher if this occurs.
  • Enforce rules against food, beverages, smoking, and radios on the vehicle.
  • Notify the school at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled reporting time if absent in the morning, or 2 hours prior if in the afternoon.
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisors.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge:

    • Basic knowledge of school bus safety.

    Ability to:

    • Operate safety and adaptive equipment, including wheelchairs, lifts, and restraint systems.
    • Move wheelchairs on and off the bus as needed.

    Qualifications - Required:

    • Must be 18 years or older.
    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Ability to repeatedly enter/exit the bus via steps.
    • Reside in or be willing to move to Boston.
    • Ability to lift 25-49 lbs.
    • Proficiency in English.

    Qualifications - Preferred:

    • Experience working with children or in a school setting.
    • CPR/First Aid Certification.
