Job Description Summary
The Strategic Logistics Operational Leader is responsible for developing and executing logistics strategies supporting North American-based project operations with a strong focus on heavy haul, oversized, and project cargo transportation. This role ensures safe, compliant, cost-effective movement of raw materials, components, and finished industrial products across domestic and global supply chains. The position emphasizes carrier strategy, network optimization, regulatory compliance, and risk management in complex, high-value logistics environments.
You will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and overseeing end-to-end logistics and transportation strategies to support business growth, cost efficiency, and service excellence. Job DescriptionKey Responsibilities Logistics Strategy & Network Optimization
- Develop and execute long-term logistics and distribution strategies aligned with corporate objectives.
- Design and optimize logistics networks, including transportation modes, warehouse locations and routing strategies.
- Lead logistics transformation initiatives to improve scalability, resilience, and sustainability.
- Develop long-term logistics strategies aligned with manufacturing capacity, capital projects, and business growth plans.
- Design and optimize transportation and distribution networks supporting heavy haul, over-dimensional (OD), overweight (OW), and project cargo movements.
- Oversee planning and execution of heavy haul, oversized, and specialized transportation moves.
- Manage permitting, routing, escorts, bridge clearances, and multimodal coordination (truck, rail, barge, port operations).
- Ensure alignment with engineering, production, and project management teams for complex moves.
- Lead carrier sourcing, qualification, and contract negotiations with freight forwarders, heavy haul carriers, rail providers, and specialized rigging operators
- Establish carrier performance standards covering safety, compliance, capacity, and service reliability.
- Manage escalation and resolution of transportation disruptions and claims.
- Develop freight budgets, capital forecasts, and long-range cost models.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce total landed cost without compromising safety or compliance.
- Track and report KPIs such as OTD, transit reliability, and damage rates.
- Analyze logistics data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, state permitting agencies, and port authorities.
- Oversee compliance with oversize/overweight regulations, Hours of Service (HOS), safety standards, and insurance requirements.
- Develop contingency plans for weather, infrastructure constraints, labor disruptions, and geopolitical risks.
- Partner with Sourcing, Procurement, Manufacturing, Project Management and Finance to align logistics plans with demand and production.
- Support new product launches, market expansions, and customer-specific logistics solutions.
- Ensure compliance with trade regulations, customs requirements, and transportation laws.
- Develop contingency plans to mitigate supply chain disruptions.
- Promote safety, security, and risk management best practices across logistics operations.
- Lead the implementation and optimization of TMS, WMS, and other analytics tools.
- Apply Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies to logistics processes.
- Communicate logistics strategy and performance to senior leadership.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Mentor team members on heavy haul best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
