DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW &
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Driver's primary responsibility is to safely transport passengers following a designated route with specific times, including picking up passengers and transporting them from their office location to the parking lot or vice versa. Arrive at collection points prior to departure times. Maintain a friendly and helpful demeanor at all times and ensure adherence to passenger limits. Perform minor preventative maintenance to vehicles;
maintain records and prepare reports on such matters as vehicle use and mileage; load and unload materials, equipment and supplies; and perform related work as required.

Monday through Friday 6:00 am – 2:30 pm
Position is governed by the AFSCME college bargaining agreement.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES- Operates motor trucks to pick up, transport and deliver passengers, materials and equipment to designated locations.
- Operates light motor vehicles to transport passengers or materials to designated locations.
- Performs minor preventative maintenance on motor vehicles such as checking tire pressure, battery, oil, gas and water levels and correcting minor deficiencies.
- Maintains records and prepares reports on vehicle use, mileage, destinations, accidents, etc.
- Loads and unloads materials, furniture, equipment and supplies.
- Commits to customer satisfaction with a positive and guest‑focused attitude.
- Maintains safety standards at all times while transporting passengers.
- Performs related duties such as contacting appropriate individuals for motor vehicle maintenance and/or repair and distributing supplies and equipment.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Current and valid Massachusetts Class 1 Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
- Knowledge of state laws, rules and regulations and safety practices governing motor vehicle operation.
- Knowledge of types, characteristics and uses of motor trucks.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures for motor trucks.
- Skill in operating motor vehicles such as automobiles, panel trucks, vans, station wagons, etc.
- Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.
- Ability to read, write and comprehend English.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
- Knowledge of terminology, codes, standard abbreviations and standard procedures followed in operating mobile radio communications equipment.
- Shuttle Driver may lift and carry heavy objects.
- Work may involve varied shifts, weekends, holidays or nights.
- Work may require exposure to adverse weather conditions.
