Position Summary

The Lead Aircraft Support Technician (AST) reports to the immediate AST Supervisor and carries out assigned duties using Jet Blue Airways procedures. The AST Lead is a working member of the Cabin Maintenance (MX) group, who at the direction of the AST Supervisor assists in the performance of AST Supervisor duties.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assign and direct the work of ASTs based on scheduled and unscheduled workloads.
  • Determine if work performed adheres to company policies, publications or other appropriate authority.
  • Check the aircraft maintenance log when assigned to meet aircraft and take any actions required to respond to discrepancies entered.
  • Complete required paperwork accurately using procedures set forth in the General Maintenance Manual (GMM).
  • Help coordinate with Line Maintenance Supervisors and Lead Maintenance Technicians with the nightly cabin maintenance and servicing of Jet Blue aircraft assigned to the Aircraft Support Technicians.
  • Ensure use of only approved and certified hardware, parts, and equipment installed or used on aircraft and verify calibration period has not been exceeded for work that requires calibrated tools or equipment.
  • Conduct crew briefings.
  • Occasionally act as AST Supervisor when the AST Supervisor is off duty, on Paid Time Off (PTO), or away from the Blue City.
  • Assist in performing routine and non‑routine maintenance on aircraft.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma.
  • One (1) year related work experience.
  • Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe Certificate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written communication.
  • Physical ability to crawl, bend, kneel, climb, and stoop frequently in confined spaces.
  • Ability to drive tugs, trucks and other company equipment.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a team environment.
  • Ability to remain alert to moving vehicles and aircraft.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License and a driving record from the state of your primary residence that meets Jet Blue Airways’ insurance standards.
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge.
  • Depending on location, may need to acquire and maintain a United States Customs Clearance.
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%).
  • Willing to work variable hours, including weekends and irregular shifts.
  • Must pre‑employment drug test.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
  • Authorization to work in the US is required; this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications
  • One (1) year experience working Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR’s) Part 121 aircraft or military.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and the Internet.
  • Strong leadership abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to think creatively.

  • Regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • When working or traveling on Jet Blue flights, all capable crew members are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft, if time permits.
