Heavy Motor Equipment Operator

Job Title

Under general supervision, operates and has responsibility for one of a wide variety of heavy motor equipment not requiring a special license (other than a Commercial Driver's License) or unusual skill, such as dump trucks, street sweepers, snowplows, sanders, etc.

Job responsibilities include:

• Operate light and heavy motorized and hydraulic equipment such as heavy trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, tractors, sweepers, pavers, rollers, bucket trucks, and other equipment
• Perform some routine and skilled laboring duties at intermediate levels
• Prepare routine records, logs, and reports
• Respond to daily inquiries, requests, and complaints from residents, contractors, etc.
• Operate snow plowing, removal, sanding, and salting equipment
• Maintain work areas in a clean, safe, and operable condition and adhere to applicable safety and health rules and regulations
• Responds to and handles Constituent Relationship Management cases
• May use mobile technology to communicate with supervisors and inspectors regarding Constituent Relationship Management cases
• Supports other Public Works Divisions as requested
• Performs related work as required
• Required to work any emergency as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee

Requirements:

• Must possess any and all licenses required by the Mass. Dept. of Public Safety to operate any heavy motor equipment, including a valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
• Boston Residency Required
• Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and focus on details as required by the job
• Applicants must be available to work any assigned shift, in any assigned location
