Peer Coach Program Manager

The division of Orientation and Transition Programs has an outstanding opportunity for a Peer Coach Program Manager to join their team. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Peer Coaching within Orientation and Transition Programs, this role is responsible for leading the first-year peer coaching program and supporting student success initiatives. The position oversees the recruitment, training, and supervision of 30 undergraduate peer coaches, ensuring they are equipped to effectively support incoming students.

This role plays a key part in advancing retention, belonging, and academic success for all first-year students at UWB.

This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with an expectation of three days per week on-site and two days remote. Due to the nature of the work, flexibility is required, and the schedule may be adjusted to meet departmental and student needs. Specific work arrangements will be determined in collaboration with the supervisor and may vary based on programming, peak periods, and operational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Coordination of Counseling of Students and Design and Implementation of Peer Coach Programs (40%)

  • Develop program goals and objectives.
  • Develop and assess program goals.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to actively participate in early alert interventions.
  • Manage peer coach utilization and data in Navigate:
    • Oversee peer coach caseload assignments.
    • Track appointment data.
    • Ensure all peer coach session notes are detailed and correctly input into the Navigate system.
    • Monitor the completion of an alert cycle.
    • Ensure that programs are prepared for small and large-scale emergencies, including risk management.

Supervise, Recruit, Develop, and Evaluate Undergraduate Student Staff (20%)

  • Lead the recruitment, training, evaluation, and direction of 30-40 Peer Coaches who provide mentorship, assist with goal setting, and offer ongoing support to all first-year students.
  • Work with student staff to create student-run programs and events for new students.
  • Develop, assess, and revise learning outcomes for student staff.

Training and Counseling of Students (20%)

  • Serve as an instructor for academic success course, BCUSP 203 between 1 or 2 times per academic year. This course(s) promotes academic success by facilitating students' engagement in their own learning. Specifically, the purpose of this course(s) is to ensure that students employed by the department are better able to create inclusive environments for students from all backgrounds, develop and facilitate peer-to-peer sessions, and communicate effectively across differences.

    Teaching this course is undertaken on an ad hoc basis, does not authorize additional compensation, does not require nor confer a faculty title, and is subject to UWHR policies (e.g., student complaint resolution). This class enrolls approximately 50 student staff members each year.
  • This is a course on student development theory and leadership with a strong focus on diversity and inclusion. Develop and provide counseling and training to the student leader team to ensure they can support and act as referral agents for all incoming students.
  • Facilitate training and development of 40 peer coaches each year.

Design and implement foundational financial literacy content within the office's peer coaching (15%)

  • Create accessible and engaging resources on basic financial topics
  • Train and support peer coaches in delivering this content effectively
  • Assess program effectiveness

Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

  • Serve and participate on university committees as assigned or designated.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Peer Coaching.
Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in orientation or student retention services.
  • Applicants who do not meet these qualifications WILL NOT be forwarded to the Hiring Manager.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership and supervisory experience, including oversight of undergraduate student staff.
  • Experience developing policies and procedures to mitigate institutional and programmatic risk.
  • Demonstrated event planning, logistics, and project management skills.
