Position: CE Facility Support Engineer - Electrical 2 - Night

Critical Environments Electrical Engineer (Data Center)

Onsite position: 12 hr shifts
- Sunday-Tuesday with every other Wednesday

Location:

Bothell, WA

Rate: payrate will vary based on qualifications and experience ranging from $42-52/hr*

Position Summary

The Critical Environments Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, operation, maintenance, and reliability of mission-critical electrical infrastructure within a data center environment. This role ensures continuous uptime, safety compliance, and operational excellence across high-availability power systems including UPS, generators, switch gear, and distribution equipment.

The engineer partners with operations, construction, and vendor teams to execute maintenance activities, respond to incidents, and drive improvements aligned with industry and client standards.

Key Responsibilities Electrical Systems Operations & Monitoring
  • Monitor and maintain critical electrical infrastructure including switch gear, UPS systems, PDUs, RPPs, and backup power systems
  • Perform routine operational rounds, capturing readings such as voltage, load, current, and system alarms
  • Utilize EPMS/BMS platforms to track system performance, alarms, and trends
  • Identify and escalate risks to ensure continuous uptime and system reliability
Maintenance & Planned Work Execution
  • Execute and support preventative and corrective maintenance activities for electrical systems, including UPS, batteries, and control panels
  • Follow and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Methods of Procedure (MOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) for all critical work
  • Perform or support controlled electrical activities such as:
    • Energization of cabinets in critical environments
    • RPP/PDU shutdowns while maintaining load redundancy
    • Power Interruption Testing (PIT)
    • Controller shutdowns and system transitions
Incident Response & Troubleshooting
  • Respond to electrical incidents and abnormal conditions using EOPs to minimize downtime
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment and infrastructure, including sensors and monitoring systems
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) and contribute to long-term reliability improvements
Vendor & Project Coordination
  • Provide oversight and escort for third-party vendors, contractors, and service providers on-site
  • Support commissioning, construction, and infrastructure upgrade activities
  • Coordinate maintenance and project work while ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards
Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain strict adherence to OSHA, NFPA 70E, and site-specific safety protocols
  • Follow all physical security and critical environment policies while performing work
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical experience
  • 5+ years of experience supporting electrical systems in mission-critical or high-availability environments (e.g., data centers, hospitals, manufacturing)
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Power distribution systems (UPS, PDU, RPP, generators)
    • Electrical maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of NEC and electrical safety standards
  • OSHA or NFPA 70E certification
  • Ability to work shift schedules (including 12-hour rotations, nights, weekends)
Preferred
  • Experience in hyperscale or colocation data center environments
  • Familiarity with EPMS/BMS systems (e.g., Schneider, Siemens)
  • Commissioning or startup experience for electrical systems
  • Knowledge of redundancy models (N, N+1, 2N)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certifications
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a mission-critical data center environment with strict uptime and safety requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and respond to incidents for extended periods
  • Required use of PPE and energized electrical work practices
