Crime Analyst Position
The Tukwila Police Department is seeking a driven and experienced Crime Analyst to join our team. We're looking for someone who excels at providing high-quality tactical and strategic analysis related to crime trends, intelligence, and complex data.

Key responsibilities include applying the full intelligence cycle—gathering, cleaning, analyzing, and distributing essential information. The successful analyst will transform data into actionable insights to inform decision-making at all levels of the department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities- The Crime Analyst will develop and maintain tactical, strategic, administrative and operational analytic capabilities. Research and reviews data and perform statistical analysis, to include identifying existing or evolving patterns and developing statistic probabilities and profiles. Identifies crime patterns by geographical area, reporting district, time of day, day of week, etc.
- Uses computer databases, electronic spreadsheets, geographic information systems (GIS) applications, desktop publishing, word processing, and statistical applications to manipulate, analyze, and present crime data.
- Analyzes raw crime data and develops recommendations to improve law enforcement effectiveness based on interpretation of patterns and trends in criminal activity.
- Prepare maps, charts, and graphs indicating criminal trends. Also prepares correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, statistical summaries, and other material requiring judgment as to content, accuracy, and completeness.
- Responds to requests and inquiries from the department, other law enforcement agencies, businesses and citizen groups, as approved by administration.
- Provides research and analysis to department personnel in preparation for meetings and information sessions and for development of department policies and programs. Serves as a resource staff member at the request of the Assistant Chief.
- Deliver presentations to police personnel, members of the community, and outside agencies.
- Maintains effective communications with Patrol and Investigative Services divisions.
- Monitors new developments relating to public safety, crime, and reporting issues and evaluates their potential impact on department operations.
- Develops, conducts, and analyzes surveys to provide information on public perception and the effectiveness of the department. May also develop, conduct, and analyze internal employee satisfaction surveys.
- Respond to inter & intra-department requests for information as well as requests from outside agencies.
- May be required to testify in court and travel to crime scenes.
- Becomes familiar with, follows, and actively supports the mission, vision, values, policies and procedures of the Tukwila Police Department.
Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):
- Modern law enforcement functions, operations, and practices;
- Laws, ordinances, codes, regulations, and standards applicable to public safety;
- Research principles and methods, to include surveys, quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis;
- Experience with statistical, crime analysis, intelligence analysis, qualitative analysis, data analysis and data collection, presentation, and mapping software
- Knowledge of current best practices in crime, intelligence, business and/or data analysis.
- Statistical analysis and methods of reporting statistical information;
- Relational database and spreadsheet applications including Access and Excel;
- General office procedures and practices; and
- Record keeping techniques.
