Job SummaryThis position assists the Supervisor of Nursing Services in carrying out the district's health program by implementing a comprehensive health services program at a specific school(s). The role of the School Nurse is to provide for the general health and wellbeing of the student population and school community.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved. Duties may vary from position-to-position or school-to-school.
Delegate and monitor health care tasks that can be conducted by or delegated to unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) according to district policy, the state nurse practice act and using professional judgment as a licensed registered nurse.
Reporting RelationshipReports to the School Principal and Supervisor of Nursing Services.
Working ConditionsWorking as a registered nurse can be a physically demanding job with frequent interruptions. The degree of physical activity may vary depending on the student population and building environment. Registered nurses may spend their workday on their feet, standing, and walking or sitting. Registered nurses may also need to be able to perform tasks that require bending, stretching, and lifting, or adjusting medical equipment.
Fine motor dexterity requirements may be necessary for medication administration and injections, putting on gloves, performing medical procedures, work with computerized records, and complete paperwork. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. May be exposed to communicable disease and bodily secretions.
Education and Experience Current Washington State licensure as a Registered Nurse Current certification in first aid and CPR;
Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)/ automated external defibrillator (AED) certification. Pediatric, adolescent, or school nursing experience preferred.
