Description:
Engineering & Construction is seeking an experienced Construction Manager - Substation & Transmission to lead field execution activities for utility-scale substation, transmission, and related infrastructure projects. This role serves as the primary field leader responsible for ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with engineering specifications, contract requirements, environmental regulations, and company standards.
The successful candidate will act as the key liaison between field operations, project management, engineering teams, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders while providing day-to-day leadership for construction execution activities. This position requires a highly organized and proactive construction professional with strong field leadership capabilities, technical understanding of substation and transmission infrastructure, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced construction environments.
This role is primarily field-based, with approximately 80% field oversight responsibilities and 20% office coordination and reporting activities.
Primary Areas of Responsibility - Construction Execution & Field Leadership:
• Lead field execution activities for utility-scale substation and transmission construction projects
• Serve as the primary field representative coordinating activities between contractors, engineering teams, project management, environmental groups, safety personnel, and stakeholders
• Ensure construction activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, schedules, permits, and contract requirements
• Review and understand all project contract documents, engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, and construction packages
• Conduct pre-construction meetings, contractor orientations, and project kickoff activities
• Coordinate with Safety teams to review contractor Health & Safety Plans (HASP) and enforce site safety compliance
• Monitor project schedules, milestones, critical path activities, and construction progress while escalating risks and delays as necessary
• Perform daily field walkdowns to monitor quality, construction progress, and compliance with engineering and environmental requirements
• Review engineering packages to verify structures, equipment, systems, demolition scope, and construction sequencing requirements
• Ensure construction execution aligns with Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings and approved engineering documentation
• Manage field-level issue resolution, contractor coordination, and construction support activities
Supporting Areas of Responsibility - QA/QC, Safety & Compliance:
• Enforce safety policies, procedures, and proactive safety culture initiatives across project sites
• Conduct daily safety meetings, field observations, and compliance reviews
• Ensure compliance with:
• Environmental Permits
• SWPPP Requirements
• Regulatory & Site-Specific Environmental Standards
• Contractual Obligations
• QA/QC Requirements
• Coordinate crossing permits, environmental approvals, and regulatory compliance activities with internal support teams
• Support quality assurance and quality control inspections throughout construction execution
• Verify installed materials, equipment, and components meet project specifications and approved submittals
• Review equipment nameplates, specifications, and material documentation for compliance and accuracy
• Track material shortages, damaged equipment, and delivery issues while coordinating resolution efforts
• Maintain detailed field reports, progress updates, tracking logs, and construction documentation
• Submit weekly project status reports, schedule updates, issue logs, and variance tracking information
Fiscal & Contract Management Responsibilities:
• Monitor project costs, field variances, and construction budget impacts
• Review contractor invoices, field changes, and cost-related documentation
