Police Officer
Under general supervision, this position provides security for City events as assigned and performs related duties as required. The class is distinguished by its responsibility to carry a handgun and maintain security for City events.

Responsibilities- Greets and observes visitors entering the public entrance of City buildings and/or City events; prevents unauthorized admittance to the City event and/or building.
- Operates scanning equipment such as metal detectors to detect possession of weapons and other objects.
- Conducts searches of visitors who possess weapons and metal objects; maintains security; calls other peace officers for assistance if necessary.
- Inspects City buildings and grounds to detect vandalism incidents, prowlers, fires, accidents or other potential hazards; may investigate unusual circumstances occurring within or around the City building.
- Checks windows and doors to ensure they are closed, locked and safeguarded.
- Makes verbal reports on incidents to their supervisor, and police officers; may prepare written summaries of incidents.
- Performs general office support work, deliver or pick‑up documents and other materials and assists Police personnel as instructed.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the City’s service to its customers by participating as an active member of a work team.
- Ensures the security of confidential information.
- Takes emergency action and/or notifies emergency personnel as the situation warrants; may administer basic first aid or CPR if required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver license. Upon hire, possess a Nevada or “border state” driver license under conditions defined by Nevada Revised Statute 483.035.
- Must be a U.S. citizen by the time of application.
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
- Must have no felony convictions or convictions of any offense which would be a felony if committed in Nevada.
- Must have no convictions for an offense involving moral turpitude or the unlawful use, sale, or possession of a controlled substance.
- Must not have resigned in lieu of termination or been terminated from any civil service employment for substantiated misconduct involving dishonesty.
- Must have no convictions for offenses of domestic violence nor a documented history of physical violence.
- Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/40 in one eye and 20/30 in both eyes.
- Hearing must be 30 decibels or less for each ear.
- Nevada Peace Officer Standards and Training Category 1 or 2 Certification required within time limits set by the City Manager. Must remain Category 1 or 2 POST certified throughout incumbency.
- Must pass a nationwide fingerprint‑based record check, and a wants/warrants check.
- Applicants for a position that is a peace officer will need to attest to the following on the application form to be considered for employment:
The applicant is not disqualified from serving as a peace officer. The applicant has not been discharged, disciplined, or asked to resign from employment with a law enforcement agency for certain conduct; and the applicant has not resigned from employment or otherwise separated from employment with a law enforcement agency for certain conduct; and the applicant has not resigned from employment or otherwise separated from employment with a law enforcement agency while an investigation concerning certain alleged conduct was pending.

Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the City; security methods and techniques; NRS related to powers of arrest and performance of duties; criminal justice; the organization and function of City departments;
