Location: Boulder, CO (Hybrid — Tues/Wed/Thurs in-office; remote considered for exceptional AdTech/Mar Tech candidates)

Our client, a growing AdTech company based in Boulder, CO, is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to provide critical coverage during a maternity leave transition. This is a hands‑on, execution‑focused role for someone who thrives on ownership and can step into an established process with minimal ramp‑up.
This is not a strategic CFO‑level position - it's a "get it done" role for someone who wants to lead a lean, capable team and independently own the monthly close.
The SituationThe current Controller is transitioning out for a 16‑week leave, with the interim Controller assuming full responsibility by the end of July. The Interim Controller will lead a lean team consisting of a Staff Accountant and Contract Senior Accountant.
What You'll Do:
- Independently own the full close process: a 5‑day flash close (cash/AR/revenue) and a 9‑day full close
- Manage Revenue Recognition in a high‑volume transactional environment
- Oversee accounting for internally developed software assets
- Handle GL entries related to payroll
- Execute monthly/quarterly commission and bonus processes
- Lead and support a lean accounting team through a transition period
- Partner closely with the CFO on day‑to‑day accounting operations
Experience & Technical Skills
- Background in AdTech, Mar Tech, or similar high‑volume transactional tech environments
- Strong technical accounting skills, particularly Revenue Recognition
- Proven ability to independently manage a close process from start to finish
- Experience with payroll‑related GL entries and commission/bonus cycles
Systems
- Net Suite required
- Experience with any of the following is a plus:
Looker, Flo Qast, CaptivateIQ (commissions/bonuses — a big plus), Expensify, Tipalti, Spendflow, Concur
Soft Skills & Culture Fit
