Position SummaryThe Staff Accountant will perform a variety of general accounting tasks to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for the organization, including general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable transactions and reconciliations.
This role will have a direct opportunity to impact our financial operations, help scale our processes, and uphold the highest standards of financial accountability. The Staff Accountant will primarily focus on managing and executing accounts payable and receivable transactions, bank reconciliations, preparing journal entries, weekly, monthly, and quarterly management reports, and providing support to the VP of Finance and executive team.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Perform and oversee all daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, AR collections, and analyzing financial transactions in compliance with US GAAP
- Prepare monthly bank account and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare monthly journal entries and supporting documentation
- Ensure sales and use tax compliance and timely filing of returns
- Update and file annual personal property tax declarations
- Participate in the preparation of budgets, financial reports, and related analysis
- Participate in the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Participate in the annual year-end financial closing process by preparing necessary schedules and documentation
- Partner with VP of Finance to support budget-to-actual variance analysis
- Participate in processing of semi-monthly payroll
- Participate in cash flow projections and monitoring
- Assist with ad hoc projects and analyses as needed, providing support to the CEO, VP of Finance, and other departments
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives that enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting operations
- Assist with development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation across accounting workflows
- Support system implementations, integrations, and upgrades (e.g., ERP, expense management, or reporting tools)
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial data
- Other duties as assigned
- Proficiency in Net Suite highly preferred
- Proficiency in highly preferred
- Avalara experience highly desired but not required
- Hands-on proficiency in accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control best practices
- Experience in a manufacturing, consumer products, or technology environment preferred
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new tasks and responsibilities
- Desire to work with cross-functional teams
- Accountability and ownership mindset
- Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- 2–5 years of progressive accounting experience
