Job SummaryThe Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) is seeking a Travel Specialist to support the Finance team. The role provides high‑quality travel assistance to CIRES faculty, researchers and staff while ensuring compliance with travel policies and procedures. The specialist collaborates with Colorado University central offices to coordinate the Finance Office’s research administration services.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the authority on travel policies; research, interpret and advise on complex policies.
- Maintain current knowledge of OMB Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, Audit Requirements for Federal Awards, Fly America Act and other regulations.
- Review, evaluate, and approve travel requests in Inside
CIRES, Concur and by email; prepare reconciliations and reimbursements. - Manage a central email inbox and respond promptly to CIRES travelers.
- Approve Travel Card Applications.
- Assist travelers with issues involving international travel, non‑employee travel, meal per diem, other costs, and personal travel.
- Collaborate with the Travel team to refine processes, research policies, and communicate changes institute‑wide.
- Maintain CIRES intranet pages with up‑to‑date travel policy and resources.
- Assist with ad‑hoc reporting and review related to travel expenditures.
- Bachelor’s degree; relevant experience can substitute on a year‑per‑year basis.
- At least one year of travel experience or closely related sponsored accounting or administration experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Excellent organization, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Customer‑service orientation and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Comfort with multiple software applications to support communication of policies.
The annual hiring range for this position is $55,100–$69,150. Some relocation funds may be available for eligible candidates.
