PositionThe Manager at the Colorado Welcome Center, Fruita is responsible for the oversight of operations, maintaining the fiscal budget, communicating with maintenance, training, and scheduling of Volunteer Travel Counselors, and managing travel literature. This position schedule is weekdays; however, the employee is required to work weekends occasionally. Additionally, the welcome center only closes major holidays during the winter months and sharing holiday shifts is required.
KeyDuties and Responsibilities
- Compile monthly visitation reports, as directed by the Director of Visitor Services.
- Operate within a set budget. Responsible for operational orders, accounting procedures and policies.
- Oversee the additional staff and Volunteer Travel Counselors.
- Comply with all state policies and procedures.
- Handle freight and storeroom organization. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds and work on feet throughout the day.
- Handle public relations responsibilities: contractual maintenance and janitorial staff communication.
- Plan emergency preparedness and collaborate with contractual organizations; respond to tourism industry requests.
- Recruit Volunteer Travel Counselors within region and local location.
- Maintain records of Volunteer Travel Counselors, including training information and volunteer hours.
- Understand and uphold Welcome Center policies.
- Maintain a schedule and ensure adequate coverage of the Welcome Center with Volunteer Travel Counselors and/or paid staff.
- Cover the front desk during business hours, including schedule gaps during the week, weekends, and holidays. Paid staff may be required to work alone at times.
- Advise travelers of Colorado’s tourism industry, geography, and road and weather conditions.
- Manage the ordering, receiving, and displaying of travel literature.
Prepare and present trainings for Volunteer Travel Counselors. - Research, organize, and execute volunteer enhancement events – including study tours.
- Organize and attend volunteer recruitment events.
- Monitor technology devices within the center, provide on-site troubleshooting, and call vendor tech‑support as needed.
- Occasional in‑state travel required; bi‑annual manager meetings.
This position requires a self‑starter who is outgoing, enthusiastic, and possesses strong leadership abilities with a positive attitude and good judgment. The ideal candidate should have exceptional interpersonal communication skills; ability to work independently, capable of multi‑tasking and anticipating needs to proactively assist others. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate conflict resolution and management skills, have a flexible schedule, and be proficient in Google Apps, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds and work on feet throughout the day. Must be able to work alternating holidays and occasional weekends.
