Compensation: $20.00 per hour

4‑week temporary position (June 9 − June 29 2024), 100% on‑site
Job Summary
The SWP portfolio editor follows guidelines set for folio inclusion within the annual issue of Bombay Gin Literary Journal (BGLJ), managing submission, selection, agreements, editing, layout, and proofing while collaborating with BGLJ editors during production and distribution of the final issue. The final product is printed in spring and released the following summer.
- Assist the smooth launch of each week during Monday mornings.
- Follow guidelines for inclusion within the annual issue of BGLJ.
- Manage the bgin e‑mail during the Summer Writing Program.
- Co‑ordinate and host a release party for the new issue of BGLJ with Student Activities Coordinator(s).
- Communicate the call for submissions with SWP participants and guest faculty.
- Solicit and collect submissions from SWP participants and guest faculty.
- Communicate with contributors regarding selection, agreement, and production status.
- Select and edit a portfolio of work that represents the themes of the Summer Writing Program.
- Layout and design the SWP Portfolio for inclusion in the Bombay Gin Literary Journal.
- Write a brief introduction to the SWP Portfolio for the BGLJ.
- Coordinate the final SWP Portfolio with the Department Steward and/or Editor‑in‑Chief of the BGLJ for inclusion in the annual issue.
- Introduce at least one guest for faculty readings.
- U.S. student, currently enrolled in the Jack Kerouac School, working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree.
- Strong eye for editing and design.
- Highly organized with excellent time‑management skills.
- Demonstrable understanding of, and appreciation for, Naropa University’s values, with the ability to embody those values in work, communication, and collaboration.
- At least one semester of previous experience on the editorial board of BGLJ.
- Familiarity with Submittable.
- Experience with InDesign or Quark.
- Ability to maintain a production schedule or timeline.
- Working knowledge of production and publishing.
During regular daily activities, the employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, sit, run, handle/finger, bend at the waist, reach above shoulder level, kneel, crouch, tolerate interruptions/distractions, and tolerate heat/cold.
