This is a full-time, non-tenure track position with an initial 3-year contract, which may be renewable

This position makes significant contributions to the Department's undergraduate educational missions, particularly with regard to our undergraduate major track in Sociocultural, Anthropological, and Interactional Linguistics (SAIL). We seek a candidate with expertise in language, culture, and society who can develop and teach courses such as Language in US Society, Language, Gender & Sexuality, Ethnicity, Race & Language, Language & Social Media, Language & Interaction, World Language Policies, and Language & Culture, in addition to innovating new courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.

Candidates who bridge the Sociocultural Linguistic (SAIL) and Computational Linguistic undergraduate tracks within the Department are especially encouraged to apply (e.g., AI in Language and Society, NLP for Endangered Language Documentation).

CU is an Equal Opportunity Employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment. Who We Are

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Colorado Boulder is a major center of interdisciplinary research in cognitive-functional linguistics, computational linguistics, language documentation, language acquisition, psycholinguistics & experimental linguistics, and sociocultural linguistics. It offers a range of research programs targeting properties of spoken language as well as language in digital media. The Department's orientation is empirical: its approach to the structure and use of language confronts theory with first-hand observations.

Analysis of video, audio, and textual data, acoustic measurements of speech, computational modeling and statistical analysis, psycho linguistic experimentation, and ethnographic fieldwork in local communities and abroad all contribute to this enterprise. The Department leads the University’s interdisciplinary and interdepartmental program in Culture, Language, and Social Practice (CLASP) and is an internationally recognized center for sociocultural and interactional linguistics.
