Job Summary

The A&S Academic Advising Program has approximately 50 full-time Professional Academic Advisors. There is natural transition in a large unit and Temporary Academic Advisors support students and advisors during staffing transitions and staffing vacancies. Temporary Academic Advisors will go through the full advising training program for our unit and are called upon as needed when staff transitions begin. Temporary advising assignments typically last 3-5 months with up to a 40‑hour work week, though will vary based on the needs of each situation.

We are seeking temporary, fully remote Professional Academic Advisors to help temporarily cover advising caseloads on an ad hoc basis.

Responsibilities
  • Provide developmental advising for an assigned set of students in a team setting and assist students in planning for and making informed decisions about areas of study, intended college outcomes, and post‑baccalaureate plans. Temporary Advisors help students assess their interests, values, and academic skills.
  • Teach students to navigate university systems, academic processes, and policies at CU Boulder, and work with students to personalize their academic paths, including offering co‑curricular guidance and leading them in regular long‑term degree planning and graduation timeline.
  • In addition to one‑on‑one interactions, Temporary Academic Advisors work with students in group settings via workshops, presentations, campus events, and other activities. Temporary Academic Advisors stay up‑to‑date on curricular changes and opportunities and provide students with accurate and timely information and guidance.
  • Student‑Facing Interactions:
    Develop trusting, supportive relationships with individual students. Serve as the primary point of contact for academic questions or concerns.
  • Work with students individually through individual appointments and group meetings, drop‑in hours, video conferencing, telephone, and email to personalize their academic path at CU Boulder. Review students’ academic records and discuss appropriate course choices.
  • Offer co‑curricular guidance that complements academic path and goals. Lead students in intentional goal setting appropriate to their developmental stage. Proactively track, contact, and work with special student populations (i.e., high‑risk, first‑generation, students who have not been in for an appointment, students in academic difficulty, students earning high grades, etc.).
  • Monitor degree audits and, in collaboration with appropriate offices, certify degree completion of assigned students. Outreach, Planning, and Support:
    Develop support programs and materials for student success and persistence.

The hourly rate for this part‑time temporary position is $25.

What We Require
  • Completed Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional related experience; OR completed Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the required degree on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Experience with student success initiatives.

  • Ability to work independently and with responsibility for initiating and completing tasks.
  • Proficient computer knowledge and skills with Adobe Acrobat and MS Office applications, particularly with Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
