Overview

This position is not part of the classified personnel system, applications will be accepted from Residents and Non-Residents of Colorado. Incumbent will be required to complete work for CDE within Colorado. This position is expected to start on July 1, 2026.

Position Details

The following is a summary of the position: The Literacy Coach position provides training and coaching to schools participating in the Structured Literacy Project, focusing on fidelity of implementation, data collection, and professional learning. The role serves in the Denver Metro Area.

Salary:
The final salary is anticipated to fall within the posted range of $82,000 to $87,000 and may vary based on candidate qualifications. Final offers are determined by skills and internal pay equity.

Start Date:
July 1, 2026.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a literacy coach in project-identified schools within the assigned region.
  • Work with teachers to implement Structured Literacy routines in K-3 classrooms and small groups; provide instructional coaching.
  • Collaborate with instructional leadership to align literacy efforts and data use; support scheduling of literacy instruction for at-risk students.
  • Provide instructional modeling and demonstration to enhance project implementation.
  • Partner with school leadership to prioritize coaching for new teachers and those less familiar with Structured Literacy.
  • Develop professional learning for K-3 teachers on literacy instruction and data analysis.
  • Review project implementation measures, including teacher fidelity and student achievement.
  • Serve as a resource for Structured Literacy instructional materials.
  • Collect data necessary for project implementation.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in reading, elementary education, special education or related field.
Qualifications and Conditions
  • Colorado teacher, related services, or principal licensure.
  • Two years of experience as a literacy coach, reading specialist, or instructional leader in a public, private, or charter school.
  • Knowledge of and experience with evidence-based reading instruction in primary grades.
  • Familiarity with Colorado early literacy legislation (HB 12-1238, the READ Act).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret instructional and assessment data.
  • Familiarity with core reading programs and literacy assessments.
  • Ability to work with diverse teachers, provide feedback, and mentor others.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and rapidly implement strategies for targeted needs.
  • Willingness to travel; strong communication skills; attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in reading, elementary education, special education, or related field.
  • Classroom teaching experience in K-3.
  • Structured Literacy training (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson).
  • LETRS training and LETRS TOT experience.
  • Experience providing adult professional learning; knowledge of adult learning theory.
  • Experience using DIBELS and related data.
Conditions of Employment
  • Willingness to travel (80% travel within Colorado).
  • Work extended schedules as needed; report to work location per business needs.
  • Must pass background check.
  • Driving may be required; MVR check for positions with travel thresholds; possession of a valid driver’s license may be required.
