Engineering a world of possibilities. The transition from student to professional is central to the success of Colorado School of Mines graduates. The Career and Professional Development Advisor is a member of the career advising team, providing guidance, professional development support, and job search assistance to students and recent graduates. This role helps students build the career‑readiness competencies and professional skills essential for a successful transition from school to career, while integrating Mines’ signature professional development initiatives—Professional Advantage and the Vallejo Irvine Program (VIP) for Professional Development—into advising, workshops, and engagement strategies.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Career Advising and Professional Development
- Advise students and recent graduates on career exploration and professional development practices.
- Provide assistance and instruction on resume and CV writing, cover and thank‑you letter development, interview presentation skills, and other tools needed for an effective job search.
- Instruct on the use of online recruiting systems and Career Center policies and procedures.
- Provide job‑search assistance for industry, research, managerial, academic, and international opportunities, including internships and cooperative education.
- Conduct practice interviews and consult on contract offers and salary negotiations.
- Coordinate strategic outreach to expand career services for specific populations of students.
- Schedule and deliver group presentations and workshops.
- Programming and Projects
- Deliver group presentations and workshops to students, prospective students, and graduates.
- Support Professional Advantage and VIP professional‑development programming, including signature events such as the Etiquette Dinner.
- Opportunity to teach courses CSM 250 “Engineering Your Career Path” and CSM 550 “Navigating Your Job Search as a Graduate Student”.
- Present to faculty and other campus constituents on Career Center services, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with all Career Center programs, events, workshops, and customer requests.
- Represent the college and career services at various events, promoting services to faculty, staff, and students.
- Supervise Student Assistants, Teaching Assistants, or Peer Advisors.
- Data Collection and Reporting
- Assist Career Center leadership with data collection of First Destination Survey data.
- Maintain student databases related to first‑destination tracking.
- Contribute to the annual report and other ad‑hoc requests.
- Maintain program records and statistical information related to student engagement, employment, and accountability.
- Annual salary range: $58,000 – $63,000.
- Fully paid health and dental premiums.

- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Successful completion of a background investigation is required.
