Job Summary
Naropa University’s BA Music Minor Program seeks to hire a talented adjunct faculty member to teach the undergraduate level course MUS 280 Recording Studio I:
Introduction to Music Technology, in the Fall semester 2026. Scheduled location at Nalanda campus, 63rd and Arapahoe in Boulder, Colorado.

Course Description:
MUS 280 Recording Studio I:
Introduction to Music Technology (3 credits):
In this class we develop an understanding of the basic principles of acoustics and electronics as they pertain to sound transmission and recording. Of particular concern is the hands-on use of microphones, signal and dynamic processors and Pro Tools, both as creative and archival tools. We also gain practical experience through group and individual recording projects that explore the technical differences between analog and digital recording and their respective techniques.

Prior recording or music experience, though helpful, is not required.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepare course syllabus according to the Academic Affairs syllabi instructions (past examples available). Submit the syllabus to the Office of Academic Affairs by the specified due date.

• Teach a 3-credit course. Teach 3 hours a week for 15 weeks with a professional level of preparedness.

• Provide one hour of office hours each week plus availability to students by appointment through meetings, phone or e-mail as needed.

• Attend music faculty meetings during the semester of this teaching assignment.

• Participate as necessary in the school of the arts concert

• Obtain permission from the copyright owner for any copyrighted material to be used in sourcebooks.

• Complete any and all faculty and staff trainings as required by the Human Resources Office or the Office of Academic Affairs within the time period set for completion by those department

Required Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Recording Arts, audio engineering, sound design, or equivalent professional experience.

• Pro Tools Certification.

• Ability to lead demonstrations, discussions and critique regarding a range of basic audio engineering tasks – including theoretical, technical, and artistic skills in recording.

• Ability to organize student involvement, troubleshoot equipment, and maintain student engagement throughout the semester.

• Knowledge of and ability to teach the views of contemplative education and diversity issues.

• A basic understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity.

• Willingness to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development, including openness to feedback and ongoing self-examination.

Preferred Qualifications

• Several years’ experience in professional recording environments.

• Professional teaching experience in the undergraduate classroom environment, including syllabus development; ability to support many learning styles and grading.

• Demonstrable knowledge of current trends in music recording – specifically rock, jam, singer- songwriter, EDM.
