Job Summary

The College of Arts & Sciences at CU Boulder encourages applications for an Academic Advisor position. Academic Advisors work in a multi-disciplinary “neighborhood” team setting to assist students in planning for—and making informed decisions about—areas of study, intended college outcomes, and post-baccalaureate plans. They educate the whole student through a developmental advising approach and are charged with implementing advising strategies and interventions to enhance the performance and persistence of students throughout their time on campus.

Academic Advisors help students assess their interests, values, and academic skills, and support them with long-term degree planning, course registration, and graduation timeline planning.

Academic Advisors teach students to navigate the university’s academic systems, processes, and policies, and work with students to personalize their academic paths, including offering co‑curricular guidance and referrals. In addition to one‑on‑one interactions, Academic Advisors work with students in group settings via workshops, presentations, campus events, and other engagement activities. They stay up to date on curricular requirements, academic policies, and opportunities in their areas of specialty and provide students with accurate and timely information and guidance to support exploration and academic engagement across the college.

A successful Academic Advisor demonstrates an agile mentality, enthusiastic attitude, and passion for working with students and colleagues.
