Compensation: $1715.80 to $2287.70 depending on previous experience teaching at Naropa

Job Summary

The Somatic Counseling department seeks an Adjunct Faculty Member to teach graduate level courses during the Summer 2026 semester. Adjunct Faculty are provided an established curriculum/syllabus to work with and develop in collaboration with existing Core Faculty. This is a one‑semester appointment assigned to a specific course.

Course is a 3‑credit course offered in the Somatic Counseling concentration, taught asynchronously online from May 18, 2026 to August 14, 2026, synchronously during an online intensive May 21–23, 2026, and in‑person during an intensive on the Nalanda campus July 13–17, 2026.

Course Description

CMHC 603 - Counseling and Helping Relationships I
Introduction to counseling theories, core skills, and the professional practice of counseling. Topics include current counseling theories, social justice and multicultural counseling competencies, basic attending, compassion, nonjudgmental states, and legal and ethical considerations. Methods of instruction include roleplay, integration of peer and faculty feedback, and skill practice with peers.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach with a professional level of preparedness for the duration of the semester.
  • Review syllabus with Core Faculty, update according to Academic Affairs guidelines, and submit by the established deadline.
  • Obtain permission from copyright owners for any copyrighted material used in sourcebooks.
  • Grade all assignments, provide feedback to students in a timely manner, and submit final grades by the Registrar’s deadline.
  • Submit grading and attendance data into the LMS in a timely manner.
  • Provide one hour of office hours each week plus availability to students by appointment.
  • Mentor students outside of class through meetings, phone, or e‑mail as needed.
  • Support the Core Curriculum assessment process as assigned.
  • Work with staff and other faculty members to manage or mediate student issues and educational obstacles, handling probationary issues in accordance with program/GSCP policies and completing related paperwork.
  • Complete required trainings as set by Human Resources or the Office of Academic Affairs.
  • Attend faculty meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • EITHER a doctorate in Counseling, Counselor Education & Supervision, Psychology, or a related mental‑health field, or
  • OR the following three requirements:
  • a Master’s degree in Counseling or a related field;
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure at the Professional Counselor or equivalent level; and
  • Equivalent of two years of full‑time clinical employment in a mental‑health setting within the last five years.
  • Significant teaching experience including lecture, facilitating discussion, and experiential exercises.
  • Ability to demonstrate course content area knowledge and application in counseling.
  • High emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and assertive communication skills.
  • Willingness to participate in professional development, including openness to feedback and ongoing self‑examination.
  • Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
  • Commitment to co‑create a diverse and inclusive community and actively participate in JEDI professional development regarding privilege, oppression, and equity.
  • Demonstration of understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression and their impact on equity, access, and opportunity.
