A wide salary range is posted for this position; salary offers are based on a salary analysis compliant with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Work Environment

This position is full‑time, federally funded (subject to availability), and eligible for a hybrid work environment.

  • Extended hours during evenings or weekends may be required
  • Up to 10 % travel within Colorado for meetings, training, and conferences; overnight travel may be required
  • Remote (home) office is required; reporting to work location per business needs
  • Essential functions include office tasks and light physical work such as walking and standing for extended periods
Position Summary

The Family Engagement Specialist enhances learning for students with disabilities through the development of resources, training, and activities to improve IEP teams, focusing on meaningful parent engagement and early dispute resolution. The role oversees day‑to‑day management of the Parents Encouraging Parents Conference (PEP) and the Colorado Special Education Advisory Committee (CSEAC).

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage an annual budget for family‑school partnership activities, including PEP and CSEAC.
  • Manage day‑to‑day family‑school partnership activities, oversight of parent engagement initiatives, including PEP, CSEAC, and responding to calls from parents.
  • Develop resources and provide technical assistance to CDE colleagues, special education administrators, educators, disability rights and parent training organizations on meaningful parent participation in special education.
  • Collaborate with other CDE staff and offices to streamline processes and inform system outcomes in supervision, technical assistance practices, and professional learning.
  • Collaborate with staff from ESSU and cross‑offices within CDE to develop guidance and technical assistance to the field.
  • Review and revise general supervision and monitoring processes under continuous improvement activities, in collaboration with ESSU teams.
  • Collaborate with GSM and other DR team members to improve system performance in monitoring and professional development, including access to dispute resolution options.
