Science Teacher, Middle School
Custer County School District is seeking an enthusiastic, student-focused, and collaborative educator to serve as a Middle School/High School Science Teacher for grades 6–9. The successful candidate will provide engaging science instruction that inspires curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong interest in learning while building meaningful relationships with students and families in our close-knit rural community.
Teachers in our district play an important role both inside and outside the classroom and have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on students through academics, mentorship, and involvement in school activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Plan and deliver effective science instruction for students in grades 6–9 aligned with state standards and district curriculum
- Create engaging, hands‑on, inquiry‑based lessons that encourage scientific exploration and real‑world application
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and support student growth
- Develop and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, assessments, and technology to enhance learning
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of grades and performance
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and staff regarding student achievement and classroom expectations
- Collaborate with colleagues, administration, and support staff to improve educational outcomes
- Participate in professional development and maintain professional responsibilities
- Support school initiatives and participate in extracurricular activities, coaching, or student organizations as appropriate
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, or related field
- Valid Colorado teaching license with appropriate science endorsement or ability to obtain valid license
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
- Knowledge of effective instructional practices and adolescent development
- Ability to adapt instruction for a wide range of student abilities and needs
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to supporting student success and contributing to a positive school culture
