Job Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) Libraries invites applications for the position of Business Data and Sustainability Librarian. This tenure‑track faculty position is part of a team of liaison librarians supporting the Leeds School of Business. As a liaison librarian, the role supports business and interdisciplinary research needs across the business disciplines. The Business Data and Sustainability Librarian will provide expertise in research methods and information sources for understanding the societal and environmental impact of business in the US and globally, and guidance for using artificial intelligence (AI) applications in business research contexts.
Responsibilities include consulting on data availability; supporting researcher use, implementation, and understanding of emerging technologies, including AI, with particular attention to ethical, equitable, and user‑centered development; staying up to date on trends in business scholarship, research methods, and new data sources for sustainable and socially responsible business practices as part of Leeds’ commitment to preparing business leaders for a sustainable future.
Additional duties include supporting the information literacy instruction program in the Business Library, engaging with researchers and students on proprietary data and emerging analysis tools, designing and delivering user‑centered instruction activities, and collaborating with subject experts to integrate business expertise and social impact across disciplines. The position supports the Social Responsibility & Sustainability division, the MS Sustainable Business and MS Analytics programs, the Business Minor program, and entrepreneurship programs in the College of Music and the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
As a member of the University Libraries faculty, the nominee is expected to maintain a record of scholarly research, participate in professional service, and engage in faculty governance in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado Boulder. The typical annual merit formula for tenure‑track faculty is 40% librarianship, 40% research, and 20% service.
This position offers a hybrid work model and reports to the Head of the Relationship Building & Engagement Unit.
Responsibilities Reference and Consultation- Focus on graduate and faculty research in areas of emerging technology, ethics and social impact.
- Provide consultations, primarily for cross‑curricular projects arising from the Business Minor and for social responsibility, sustainability, and business analytics related research.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for emerging technology and AI‑focused business research.
- Build relationships with disciplinary liaison librarians and entrepreneurship programs.
- Track and participate in established and emerging groups within Leeds and the broader campus innovation community.
- Focus on building relationships within Leeds School of Business, including the Social Responsibility & Sustainability division, analytics MS programs, and PhD programs.
- Contribute to a shared community of expertise in AI tools in the libraries and collaborate to integrate AI and emerging technologies into librarianship.
- Develop and share deep subject expertise around AI tools for business research.
- Develop and share expertise on business analytics.
- Develop expertise in global social and environmental impact measures within the field of Business.
- Leverage subject expertise and relationships to advocate for library priorities.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure business collections and resources meet the Business community needs, with attention to resources related to social impact and business analytics.
- Integrate information literacy into the university curriculum related to specific disciplines, competencies, or techniques.
Maintain a sustained record of substantive scholarship and creative work and demonstrate a continued commitment to leadership and service.
