ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

Belmar Elementary is a small neighborhood elementary school located in the central part of Lakewood, Colorado. Our school's specialized instructional model is Arts Integration. Our students learn and construct understanding through an art form. Students have opportunities to be creative and to take risks through the connection between their grade level content and an art form.

Belmar Elementary School serves roughly 260 students in the Lakewood neighborhood of Colorado. Over the past 5 years, our free/reduced lunch rate has been steadily climbing from 49% in 2012 to 62% in 2017. Minority students make up approximately 47% of Belmar's student population and 12% of students are ELL students.

We have two kindergarten classrooms and two classrooms for each grade from one through five. We also have two Center Program SPED classrooms serving students with significant learning disabilities. Through the full implementation of Professional Learning Communities, our staff prides itself on its willingness and ability to meet the individual learning needs of each student.

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY:

Responsible for instructing students in an elementary grades K-6. Creates lesson plans, instructs students on core subjects such as science, literature, and math, and creates a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional preparedness based on the District's Core Curriculum. Create instructional resources for use in the classroom.

  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities.
  • Create positive educational climate for students to learn in.
  • Meet course and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions.
  • Create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.
  • Grade papers and perform other administrative duties as needed.
  • Read and stay abreast of current topics in education.
  • Utilize various curriculum resources and technologies to enhance student learning.
  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
  • Utilize District curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Prepare and distribute parent communications.
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom creating appropriate behavior strategies.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
  • Teacher must hold Colorado Teaching License or authorization.
