Position available to teach online at the undergraduate and graduate level: REL-314 Islam:
Traditions and Experience. This is a cross-listed 3-credit course, which requires 45 contact hours during the semester. This course is offered online and in-person, through Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, during the Spring 2027 semester and is delivered synchronously.

This course presents a historical-experiential introduction to Islamic history, beliefs, and practices. One part of the course will explore the historical development of Islam, a tradition which understands itself to be a sixth-century reform movement restoring the proper understanding of God's oneness (tawhid), as well as its five core beliefs and five pillars of practice from a contemplative perspective. The second part of the course will focus on contemplative practices in Islam, including those drawn from Sufism.

In this course, students will engage both academic and traditional texts, learn about traditional Islamic teaching and practice, and participate in experiential exercises in order to gain a firsthand experience of contemplative practices in Islamic culture. Cross-listed as REL-545.

• Instruct students online -- in accordance with the syllabus, assess student progress and assign grades to students, accordingly, provide oral and written feedback to students on their progress in the course and on assigned work, submit grades to registrar by approved deadlines.
• Provide one hour of online office hours each week plus availability to students by appointment.
• Obtain permission from the copyright owner for any copyrighted material to be used in source books.
• Complete any and all faculty and staff trainings, including training in Canvas CMS, as required by the Human Resources Office or the Office of Academic Affairs within the time period set for completion by those departments.
• Create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.

• MA, MDIV, or Doctoral degree in Religious Studies, Philosophy, Psychology, or a related field. Doctoral degree preferred.
• Ability to create and maintain an environment conducive to learning and to maintain a professional demeanor during online classes and office hours.
