Electronics Technician, Hardware Engineer
About Mesa Quantum
Mesa Quantum is building chip‑scale quantum sensing systems for resilient timing and navigation. Our work sits at the intersection of atomic physics, photonics, RF electronics, and precision manufacturing. Backed by top‑tier deep‑tech investors and the U.S. Department of Defense, Mesa Quantum is rapidly scaling and actively recruiting exceptional innovators who want to build the future of quantum technology from the ground up.
The RoleWe are looking for a hands‑on Hardware Technician to support assembly, testing, and characterisation of our quantum sensor systems and subassemblies. This role is ideal for someone who is deeply thorough, enjoys working at the bench, and takes pride in building clean, reliable hardware. You will work closely with our engineering and physics teams to assemble PCBs and opto‑mechanical systems, run measurements, troubleshoot issues, and help turn prototypes into repeatable builds.
This is not a maintenance role. You will be actively involved in building new systems, improving processes, and tightening up how our hardware comes together.
What You’ll Do- Assemble and rework PCBs, cables, and electromechanical subassemblies
- Perform optical alignment of components including lasers, optics, and fibre assemblies
- Set up and run measurements for electrical, optical, and system‑level testing
- Support characterization of devices and subsystems
- Troubleshoot hardware issues in collaboration with engineers and physicists
- Maintain organised build procedures, test protocols, and basic documentation
- Help improve assembly workflows to make builds more repeatable and reliable
- Maintain lab equipment and help keep the bench and build area clean and functional
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience in hardware assembly, lab technician, or electronics technician roles (or equivalent practical experience)
- Demonstrated experience with PCB assembly and rework, including fine‑pitch soldering and connectors
- Experience running measurements with atomic or optical systems
- Experience characterising optoelectronic devices
- Comfortable working with basic electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and multimeters
- Experience with or strong interest in optical alignment, photonics, or working with lasers
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to building and testing hardware
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain accurate build and test documentation
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, early‑stage environment where priorities evolve
- Clear communicator who can surface issues early and collaborate with engineers to resolve them
Benefits
- Top tier employee and family health coverage (medical, dental, vision)
- Unlimited PTO
- Paid parental leave
- Stock ownership plan
- Additional fringe benefits such as relocation allowance, weekly lunches, gym memberships, and more
Pay Range
We provide market‑competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, performance bonus, benefits, and equity. The total pay for this position ranges from $55,000 to $75,000. The exact salary would be based on relevant technical and industry experience.
Mesa Quantum is an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, disability, or any other classification protected by law.
