Position: Experienced Electrical Engineer (Renewables)

WSP is seeking a Renewable Energy Electrical Engineer for our Houston, TX office. The following locations will also be considered:
Boulder, CO, Buffalo, NY, and Austin, TX. This opportunity involves being part of our deeply experienced Renewable Energy team in the US.

Responsibilities
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data relating to collection system/BOP components, equipment specifications for procurement package development and pricing, IFR/IRC design and review processes, and IEEE/NESC Standards/NERC regulations for design work.
  • Assist in reviewing third‑party design documents, test reports, procurement lists, and project plans.
  • Perform detailed electrical engineering work on the design of single‑line, three‑line, wiring diagrams, general arrangement, renewable energy facility layout, cable ampacity, arc flash, grounding grid design, and lightning protection.
  • Incorporate future‑ready techniques, concept development, operating strategies, and design requirements with equipment sizing and cabling, AC/DC panel design, and conduit/trenching design.
  • Support senior engineers with research and recommendations of fundamental components identified in design requirements.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering, design, testing, maintenance modifications, and construction procedures.
  • Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, lighting circuits and controls, facility and electrical service, and power distribution.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
  • Work as an individual contributor or as part of a cross‑functional team of engineers to execute project work, including cost and quantity calculations and ensuring project work conforms to specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with development and scoping of small‑to‑medium projects.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that clarify research findings and propose solutions.
  • Conduct engineering studies and surveys for design and construction information and future needs.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data from field investigations and develop action plans for risk mitigation.
  • Participate in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Collaborate with other engineers and disciplines on projects with electrical infrastructure authorities for federally, state, regional, and locally funded projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
What You Bring

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 to 5 years of post‑education experience designing power transmission and distribution systems in utility or industrial/commercial environments.
  • Engineer in Training Certification or willingness to obtain within a reasonable time.
  • Exposure to operations and project controls experience for reporting.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and application to permitting and project work.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
