Job DescriptionWe’re looking for a hands‑on Assembly Technician to support the integration, assembly, and testing of our weather sensing hardware and satellite systems. This role sits at the intersection of precision mechanical assembly, environmental testing, and atmospheric instrumentation – and is ideal for someone who takes pride in building things right the first time.
You’ll work closely with our engineering team to assemble and validate hardware that eventually ends up in orbit, collecting microwave radiometry data that feeds directly into global weather forecasting models.
Essential Functions + Responsibilities- Assemble and integrate electronic, mechanical, and RF subsystems for satellite hardware in accordance with engineering drawings and work instructions
- Assemble and re‑work PCBAs using hand soldering and pick‑n‑place reflow processes in accordance with IPC‑A‑610 Class 3 standards
- Hand solder SMT devices down to size 0402 (imperial) under a microscope
- Build wire harnesses using crimping, soldering, and lacing techniques
- Monitor satellite testing processes by running scripts and flagging anomalies
- Responsible for testing initial assembly procedures, document non‑conformances, and provide feedback to develop our repertoire of Standard Operating Procedures under the guidance of supervisor and in collaboration with the team
- Collaborate with engineers to identify and resolve assembly, integration, or test issues
- Handle sensitive electronics and RF components according to ESD and cleanroom protocols
- Support continuous improvement of assembly processes, work instructions, lab organization and 6S initiatives
- Assist with health & safety, facilities, and general mechanical tasks as needed
- 2+ years of experience in precision assembly, electromechanical integration, or aerospace/defense hardware manufacturing – soldering experience required.
- Certified to IPC J‑STD‑001 and IPC‑A‑610
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and assembly procedures
- Comfortable using hand tools and power tools
- Familiarity with cleanroom and ESD‑sensitive environments
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to documentation quality
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, small‑team environment where flexibility and initiative matter
- Familiarity with Python, Git, and Linux
- Experience with wire harnessing, IPC‑A‑620 certification
- Familiarity with RF principals
