Summary
Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer I & II to join our Energy Storage Group to provide electrical technical support throughout the entire construction project. Strong communication skills are necessary as you will interact with staff at all levels in an ever‑changing environment.
Travel Requirement: 100% travel or on rotation.
Locations: CA, NM, TX, CO, United States.
This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.
Responsibilities- Review owner project requirements.
- Assist in performing scope reviews.
- Assist in creating commissioning plans, checklists, and tests.
- Perform field visits and observe commissioning inspections and tests where prescribed means and methods are provided.
- Assist in writing issue descriptions and field reports.
- Assist in creating systems manuals.
- Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
- Support planning and execution of system tests, including but not limited to NETA, SCADA, controls, and operations verification of energy storage systems.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a similar technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum one year of construction management or commissioning experience, preferably with an MEP contractor or commissioning firm.
- Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
- Basic understanding of key construction documents and their relationship to construction project management and field execution.
- Basic understanding of how design, construction, start‑up, and turnover align within the project delivery process.
- Basic understanding of key construction documents and their relationship to quality control/quality assurance (QA/QC).
- Fundamental knowledge of commissioning processes and commissioning process delivery.
- Ability to conceptually relate the construction deliverable to the commissioning deliverable.
- Intermediate level of Microsoft Office, Project, and pertinent web application skills.
- Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies.
- Positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills.
- Active listening skills and effective communication, including openness to diverse input and feedback.
- Ability to travel 100%.
The base pay range for this role is $80,900 – $109,300.
Electrical Commissioning Engineer II- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum three years in electrical construction management or electrical design.
- Utility experience preferred.
- This is a traveling field position.
- Demonstrate strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills.
- Detail orientation sufficient to organize and run multiple project tasks.
- Possess basic understanding of construction law, generally accepted business practices, construction techniques, and project management practices.
- Intermediate level of Microsoft Office, Project, and pertinent web application skills.
- Positive professional attitude, and strong customer service skills.
- Interpret and communicate Mortenson policies effectively.

- Strong cross‑cultural relationship building and influencing at all organizational levels.
- Consistent record of including diverse team members when assigning challenging and high‑profile tasks.
- Working knowledge of NEC code and NE safety code a plus.
- Current driver’s license.
The base pay range for this role is $91,700 – $123,800.
Actual range is higher for the following office locations:
Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
