The WorkLockheed Martin is seeking a talented level 2 Network Engineer with a Secret clearance to work from our Boulder, CO location.

SBIRS and the Next‑Gen GEO OPIR ground stations form the backbone of the United States’ missile‑warning architecture. By delivering near‑real‑time, high‑confidence detection of ballistic missile launches and other hostile trajectories, these systems provide life‑saving early warning for the warfighter, enable rapid decision‑making, and support cueing of defensive interceptors and command‑and‑control assets.
The Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Infrastructure Team is seeking a Network Engineer to design, build, and sustain the ground‑station platform that supports both SBIRS and the Next‑Gen GEO OPIR ground stations. In this role you will work closely with software, security, and mission engineers to deliver ultra‑reliable, secure, and scalable ground‑systems that enable continuous infrared surveillance and missile‑warning capabilities for legacy and next‑generation satellite constellations.
Responsibilities- Design and plan network communications systems.
- Provide specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
- Provide specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
- Conduct testing of network design.
- Maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Evaluate and report on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.
This is an EMERGING PROFESSIONAL (level
2) role where candidates typically require 1+ years of professional experience and a BS degree.
- Design, build, test and troubleshoot network systems.
- Current active clearance.
- A fast learner who has ability to work in a team setting, in addition to the ability to receive taskings from the team and drive to completion independently.
- Foundational understanding of routing and switching protocols.
- Foundational understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS.
- Foundational understanding of firewall policies.
- Foundational understanding of network administration.
- Foundational understanding of Cisco Nexus and Catalyst switching platforms.
- Foundational understanding of maintenance and troubleshooting tools including but not limited to Wireshark, Splunk, Infoblox NetMRI.
- Familiar with DISA STIG checklist and hardening Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches.
- Create change management tickets and tracking.
- Jira and Confluence experience.
- Experience operating within Red Hat based environments.
- Experience with TACLANE configuration.
- Experience with Cisco Next Gen Firewalls.
